With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (119 Viewers)

Looks like we will get 7th Pick? I also updated thread title.

1) Will Johnson- day one starter/ pro bowler
2) Abdul Carter- premier pass rusher
3) Mason Graham- makes the run defense better and will elevate breese and the entire defense line.

-if the saints are able to bring back young on a decent deal, I’d flip Carter and Graham. Also like the combo of Carter and someone like Kenneth Grant/Deone Walker in the later rounds. Rebuilding the D line should be a priority and OGs can be had in the mid rounds.
I don't see any of those guys being there at 9. But they'd be great picks if they were there.

Again, neither would have helped this year. Fuaga didn’t make the line great and didn’t stop us from losing 12 games. Guys like Bowers are super star building blocks for the future. You have to get them and are more valuable in today’s NFL than fat guys. The only thing more valuable than super star offensive play makers are franchise QBs. That’s the point. Draft fat guys from rounds 3 on…. Get superstar offensive players and franchise QBs in rounds 1 and 2.

The best teams in the NFL fall to pieces when the lose their all world playmakers…. But seem to survive a fat guy being out for a while. It’s not coincidence. It’s points.
Your logic is unsound. And history proves it. I'm not saying that you don't need playmakers but without those " Fat Guys" and much more good ones are found in the 1st 3 rnds and very few good ones are found in rds 4-7 the "Playmakers" make little difference. Barry Sanders did nothing but rack up stats without the fat guys. Calvin Johnson even with Bradford did nothing. Walter Payton did nothing until he got some good fat guys

You know why the Lions playmakers make plays? because they have good fat guys that they got in the 1st 3 rds almost all in the 1st

That's not to mention the fat guys on the defensive side of the ball that are game changers that sack or stop the playmakers. KC probably does not win last yrs SB without Jones, one of those fat guys

Denver won SBs with not so great skilled players and very good fat guys

Your simplistic premise is flawed because you will find few good fat guys in the rnds 3-7, and if all you draft are skilled players in the 1st 2 rds all you'll have is guys that have good stats and very few wins

Bowers didn't stop the Raiders from losing *checks notes* 13 games so your logic is unbelievably flawed.

It's also worth noting BOWERS WAS SELECTED BEFORE WE PICKED.

The best teams in the NFL are lead by their "fat guys".

Lions
Eagles
Ravens
Bills
Chiefs

Keep up I already said all that. The point was building around superstar offensive players. And filling in with fat guys.

All the teams you listed are loaded with superstars at TE, WR or RB or all 3… and also have a franchise QB or the best QB ever.

And none of them were any good until said Superstars and or franchise QBs were acquired.

Enjoy your fork feed gumbo sir.

And then complain when the QB doesn't have time to get him the ball. Trust me, I wanted Bowers too. But he would've been wasted here right now. If we hadn't had Fuaga over there, then who would you have?
The qb doesn’t have time with all the 1st rounders we have now so why add another. It’s pointless to keep doing what you’re doing. Sorry but the issue is coaching. No way in hell can everyone we pick in the 1st and 2nd for the oline regress year after year and other olines filled with 3rd and 4th rounder excell.

This notion that 3rd and 4th round OLineman excel for other teams is simply a fantasy.

You are only aware of the late round lineman that work out. There are COUNTLESS 3rd 4th whatever round lineman that don't pan out.

If you keep reading on down the next posts you will see I even said I wouldn't draft a tackle in the first this year. We need a guard, but you address that in the 2nd or 3rd. I'm good with a WR at 9 if ones there. I wouldn't reach. I just don't think me personally would draft Jeanty at 9. And I like Jeanty.

Graham isn't a nose. He's a 3-tech just like Bresee. He doesn't move the needle in run defense.

Also, there are NO GUARDS WORTH SPENDING A TOP TEN PICK ON. Not even a first rounder.

Are y'all just terrified of scoring points or something? "Jeanty only had 100+ yards against Penn State." Yes, against a team with good run defense that was stacking eight in the box and selling out to stop him. He still generated offense. Did I miss something, or are there only a small group of us who noticed how dinged up Kamara got this season? Or that Kendre is injury-prone? Or that Jamaal Williams is better at funny sound bytes than he is at running the football at this point? Or that CEH may not be able to get past his PTSD? What makes y'all think that we have a stacked RB room?

Unfortunately there isn't a single offensive weapon in this draft that will be available at 9 that's worth a top 10 pick.

Tet is the only reciever worth a top 10 and he's more than likely going to be long gone. Jeanty is the other but like many have said that's poor value.

Give me ONE example of a team within the last 15 years with severe lack of talent that was able to rebuild around a running back.

There is the problem with drafting a RB in the top 10. It never equates to winning.

Tmac and Jeanty are worth a top 10 pick…. Warren is close…. I’d say top 15.

The notion of position value is comical at this point on a team that’s in need of playmakers at every position.

The value is impact and building an offensive team that can be competitive in a scoring league centered around QBs and offense - and the rules that benefit them explicitly.

We need to get one of those 3…. And frankly I don’t care where we pick one. Value only comes into play in hindsight.

Would you have taken Kamara top 10 if you knew what you know now? And I’m not saying instead of Lattimore…. Just a general question. Yeah you would.
