With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (81 Viewers)

Just because WE haven't drafted well does not mean you don't draft OL or DL in the 1st 2 rnds. One of the reasons I'm wanting to keep Kubiak and the O coaching staff is the system he runs does not need the greatest OL , just a very good LT which I hope that Fuaga can be. We do need to get better on the IOL because Ruiz and Patrick are not very good. I would move Ruiz to backup C and replace him and also replace Patrick hopefully in FA.

Penning has shown vast improvement under Benton and Dennison which is why I'd like to keep the O staff
This is one of the reasons I’d like to give Kubiak another year at least. Good guards can be found in the later rounds. I love the idea of moving Ruiz to backup center. My one wish for this draft is that we get players that excel at their college position and play them at the same spot in the pros.

Unless one of the 2 can catch a back shoulder throw in the end zone while getting 2 feet down…. Or turn a screen play into a house call…. Need is a strong word.

This team needs to score points consistently to have any chance of competing on a regular basis anytime soon.

You have no chance of doing that when your top 3 backs are either 30 + years old or perpetually unavailable or both…. And your top WRs weigh a buck fifty and are one hit away from the ambulance…. And your best TE is actually a QB…. Or RB…. Or FB…. Or wait…. He’s in that first group I mentioned…. What was the question?

Oh yeah…. I like points.

This.

We have spent way too many prime assets on OL and don’t have anything to show for it. Even after spending all these assets, three firsts and a second, people still think the line is horrible.

A rookie starting OL isn’t the end-all be-all solution for our situation.

Am I saying we should draft an offensive skill position player just to do it? No. But if the grade checks out and he’s the best player on the board, you do it. You need it. We need to stop spinning our wheels and add playmakers if they are available to us.

Again we have a 1st or 2nd round pick at every OLine position save 1. We have built it. It has to play better. Lions have also drafted WR TE and RB early in drafts before they became contenders. These things require context
Man this is what I keep saying. We already have a line with all 1st and second rounders, but some think we need to keep replacing the ones we have with more and we still get the same results. Maybe hold the oline coach accountable or OC for wasting the talent we have. I perfectly okay to have a 3rd or 4th rounder in the mix of what we have on the oline.

Your lack of football knowledge is showing. Now we are in agreeance about Ruiz, but Fuaga and Penning were healthy al 17 games and played well as neither was a turnstile.
FWIW, Penning gave up 54 pressures as of last week, which was most in the league for a tackle. Fuaga gave up 39, which is 10th most (although he is a rookie).

I'm in no way opposed to drafting skilled players high, my #1 wish player is McMillan but the chances are he will not be there. So what do you do, reach for a player just because he's a skilled player?? Heck no. I think an X WR is one of our biggest needs. I don't think Burden is worth the 9th pick and he's not an X.

I don't think Jeanty is worth the 9th pick plus we have AK for 2 more yrs and I think he'll play at an elite level for those 2 yrs and we also need to see just what we have in Miller, so we use the 9th pick to have Jeanty and just stash him for a couple yrs ?? Or we move on from Miller only to have him be great somewhere else? OR we get Jeanty who has pretty high usage already beat up behind a not ready for prime time OL for a couple yrs It does not make sense.

If Graham is there we take him, him along with Bresse gives us a good future on the interior DL and helps with stopping the run something we have not been able to do for yrs.

If both are gone ( most likely) I hope Dallas give us a 2nd to move up and get Jeanty and can fill out the roster with BPA at a position of need
We also have to draft LBs that can cover TE & RB...
We are terrible at this also!

I really like the kid from Cal because of this & he is a mid round pick.

I'm not the biggest fan of using pressures to gauge our OL.
Chase Young is great example. He is one of the DL leaders in pressures but he hasn't t really changed the outcome of any game with his pressures.

Sacks & tackles for a loss matter!

I do believe our 2 young OT will only get better.
McCoy is Pro Bowl Alternate even with missing almost half of the season.
We need better G play...

And as we have this discussion…. Gibbs has 3 TDs tonight…. Leads the league in TDs…. Vikes have no answer, and I believe he was picked 12 overall.
Prior to the season-ending injury of David Montgomery, after 13 games Gibbs had 12 TDs.

The same number of TDs as Montgomery, a free agent signing and former 73rd overall draft pick.

The only difference since then has been Gibbs getting almost all the carries (and TDs) in Montgomery's absence.

So, 12th overall or veteran free agent, both produced TDs at the same rate when given equal opportunity. Almost suggests some sort of common denominator...

MADNESS

The Patriots winning yesterday kind of sucks for us. Going into yesterday there looked to be a decent chance Tetairoa could potentially fall to us as the Patriots likely would take Travis Hunter if they had the top pick and the other teams ahead of us were far from a lock to take Tetairoa given their needs and who likely would be available. Now with the Patriots picking #4, I’ll be surprised if they don’t strongly consider Tetairoa at that spot (assuming Hunter goes in the top 3 picks).

Great running backs can be found it later rounds, sure. But if the league was to do a 2017 re-draft with a crystal ball, knowing what we know today, where would Alvin Kamara be selected?

Just curious what some of your philosophical takes are on that question.

That’s what this should be based on…perceived, determined value of a player, his grade, rather than banking on getting lucky in a middle round or downgrading him solely because he plays a certain position, IMO.
