stop wanting to trade up. it is a waste of valuable picks of which we just lost onr (4th) for vilma. i think the vilma trade is easily worth it, but moving up from 10 when we have so monay needs on defence is sheer stupidity. one of the players we- and by we i mean the front office, not all of us keyboard gm's- want will be there. then we can take the bpa in the 2nd who should be a starter as well.

To move up to possibly take Ellis would cost us our second or thrird round pick depending on how far up we would have to go. So that would leave us with only two first day picks and only three second day picks. No DT is worth that (in this draft), in my oppion. By trading up we would only duplicating what we did in 2003. So I say stay put draft BPA or trade back pick up additional pick. I don't know if you remeber the 2003 draft we had four first day picks going in to the draft and we only walked away with two (Johnathan Sullivan and Jon Stichcolmb). Get over the man crush!

So could many of us that advocate trading up say the very same thing about a desire for a small school corner that came out of nowhere and a freakish physical but relatively average producing WLB. Check out our 3rd round picks over the years and weigh the risk because Ellis and Dorsey could become Tommy Harris good or better.

How many Ints did these dominant corners have, how many tackles did this top 10 linebacker have. How many sacks did Ellis have?

Ellis and Dorsey aren't sliding to 10. It's time to start putting those dreams to bed. To give up a third round pick for Dorsey is well worth it.

How did we give up the fourth this year for Vilma if the pick we gave up was a conditional fourth. I meanI thought that if Vilma played well then the pick could become a third then wouldn't it have to be next years fourth or third.

My understanding is that we gave them this year's 4th. If he plays 70% of the D snaps and re signs with us (remember his contract is only through this year) then we give up next year's 3rd and get next year's 4th back from them.

Complicated, but that is my understanding...

As to the OP -

I would not trade up. Excellent value will be available at 10, and depending on who is available, we might be able to trade down and get an extra pick or two to make up for the 4th we lost. But with that 4th gone, then we really can't afford to give up a third. IMHO, we need that pick.

JMO.

I would trade up using the third for Ellis but not Dorsey. If that is not a possibility than I would just go bpa. I equate trading down to settling for mid to low tier free agents.

Were not that far off from the top team in the NFC. One impact player could easily get us over the hump.

For only a third? In a heartbeat. People who are comparing this to Sully need to take their blinders off. These two men are the most impressive players in the entire draft IMHO and neither of them can be compared to the weight gaining slack machine named Sullivan. Both of these guys have major solid work ethics and are forces of nature on the football field. To not move up for only a third round pick would be insane. Sure, standing pat and having one fall to us would be nice, butt that's basically impossible.
IMHO, we won't even get the chance to trade up for a third because Mylanta and da Raiduhs are going to take them at 3 and 4, but if something wacky happens (read Al Davis talks Jerry Jones into trading his 2 first rounders for the 4 spot to land McFadden), then it's a slim possibility we could trade with Baltimore and land one of them. If that does happen and we try to wait it out, the second will be gone before us without any question in my mind. I's make that trade 10 times out of 10 for either one of them.

All the people that are for moving up to select a DT are gonna be pretty upset if we select Rashard Mendenhall, like the other thead implies.
