Music is one of the few things I take seriously anymore…..to me this YR BS is just another dumb label thrown around to make money….Steely Dan is about as far from being a rock band as Bach is….its ridiculous on its face IMO

Labels don't have much actual musical usage (unless it's the 'i like X what other bands might I like?" - X the unknown not X the punk band), but I do think there can be a sociological usefulness to them
like why does Hip Hop happen when it does? Why punk? why British invasion? why does the Nashville sound suck so much?
thee labeling is a short hand that allows for broader cultural discussion

I’ll agree that Labels are fine when they are consistent and accurate….but often they are just ill informed words of nothingness….like Yacht rock, just dumb….ill admit it’s a pet peeve….
