Basically pick five guys (at the height of each of their careers) who would beat anyone elses starting five.

PG: Magic
SG: Jordan
SF: LBJ
PF: hakeem the dream olajuwon
C: Shaq Diesel aka Wilt Chamberneazy aka The Big Aristotle

My PF and C may not have had the best overall career numbers... but in their prime they were the best all around players to play their position IMHO.

PG: Magic Johnson
SG: Michael Jordan
SF: Larry Bird
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Hakeem Olajuwon

PG-Magic
SG-Kobe(Jordan is far better but, Kobe doesn't need the ball in his hand as much and with this line up no one guy can have it in his hand too much)
SF-Bird
PF-Hakeem
C-Shaq

sixth man- Pete Maravich

Not all are the best at their position but, it is the best constructed team I think

Terrible lists so far: except TeacherSaint obviously...

PG: Zeke
SG: Jordan
SF: Bird
PW: Duncan
C: Russell

PG- Bobby Hurley
SG- Kevin Ollie
SF- Bobby Simmons
PF- Cherokee Parks
C- Bill Wennington

hmm-
PG-Isiah Thomas
SG Jordan
SF Bird
PF Tim Duncan
C Bill Russell ( don't need a scorer--need defense)

Bench-

McHale
Hakeem
Kobe

I like it. Personally, I'd rather Magic Johnson than Thomas and I think Shaq at least belongs in the conversation.

We saw how that worked out. He couldn't get a ring by himself.

Not saying having a ring or not will decide greatness, but he flourished when the Bulls put a team around him.

Yeah, I agree - obviously I was being a little facetious. But Jordan was one of the few players (Magic was another, IMO, to some extent) that could competently play every position on the floor when necessary, from taking the ball up the court to posting up and boxing out a big guy down low.
