Shockey trade for what? (1 Viewer)

The Saints #10 pick has a value of 1300pts.
The Giants #31 pick has a value of 600pts.

If we were to trade 1st round picks and they give Shockey, that would make him worth 700pts., which is eqivilent to the #26 pick. I personally think that Shockey is better than any other player, let alone tight end in the draft at pick 26. After all, he was the #14 pick in the '02 draft; a draft in which we picked Donte Stallworth at #13. So this conversation wouldn't be happening had things gone a little different.

I would have no problem giving up #10 and recieving #31 and essencially#26. We did, unfortunatly :covri: , trade #17 and 18 to Arizona in '03 for #6 overall, Jonathan Sullivan.:angryrazz: Maybe fate will be on our side five years later. According to this years points we gave away 1,850pts. for 1,600pts in '03.

I would feel much more comfortable with our team if we get Shockey and still keep 2 picks in the first 40 picks, than is we trade up and lose a pick or player or force a pick at #10 that we can get in a later pick, maybe a trade with Phili. With picks #31 and 40, we can secure another olb, db, and/or dt.

The only thing is that we offered our #40 and R. Harper earier and were denied. I would only feel comfortable with swapping first and getting Shockey. I would not give another pick or player for this to happen, especially Harper who can prove himself this season.

Also, how is this for irony, #25 we take Charles Grant with the #26 pick being non other than the other person we are talking about trading back for Lito Sheppard. Weeeiiirrrddd......................OOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhh

How about this? We trade back to Philly's spot and pick up Lito Sheppard, Trade from Philly's spot to 31, and pick up Shockey, and keep our second rounder for a DT, pick up two veteran players for moving back twice. That would be awesome.

Mine was more succinct :angryrazz:

Why is everyone is such a rush to over-pay for Shockey and/or Lito?

Where were all these folks back when I was in retail? ;)

Isn't this a dead issue? We ask the Giants if Shockey was available and either they said No, or they want a 2nd and Roman Harper.

I doubt we make a draft day trade because we are not swapping firsts for shockey and I don't want to give up our second for problem child who doesn't always stay healthy.

yea your right....we need a player who will throw our coach and his team under the bus after a tuff loss. What a leader! TE is like #5 on the list of need here.

You call it throwing under the bus to me it means calling players and coaches out when they needed to be. Maybe he should do it behind closed doors but he was not the only one calling out his coach and his team at the time he did it. The Giants prior to last season had struggled mightly down the stretch and lost out on the playoffs. They folded up the tent and the media also was calling out Coughlin, Manning. Shockey I don't think ever called out his QB. I could be wrong but he did question play calling for the most part and other players hearts. Do you have any doubt that Drew Brees will be able to find Jeremy Shockey. I have not seen alot of QB's in the game that keep so many players in the game because he spreads the ball around so well. Shockey will get his catches and will be happy because we will be winning. Here is an interesting article that give some of Shockeys perspective on teammates talking to the media. Eli apparently wanted him back in New York prior to last season.

Bottom Line....They dont win the SuperBowl much less get past Green Bay if Shockey played.....He would have cryied for the ball and Eli would have had pressure to throw to him. And OK, we want to upgrade TE, thats fine. Why not draft one insted of risking it on an injury prone (possible) Cancer.

Double Trade

I can see that happening...if we were able to pull the trigger with Philly first.

Giants want to move up as high as they can to maybe pick up whichever top corner is left. If they have to wait till 31...they will not get one.

Now that means we will not either...but that may be a slot for a LB or Safety at 31.

I don't think it is a dead issue. There is still a lot of "smoke" around this "fire".

We could still see something go down with Shockey on or before draft day. This one just won't die. (And I for one hope we get him. Passionate player in my book, not a cancer like the talking heads like to play up.)

The probowl TE versus a untested rookie that wont likely contribute for a couple of years. As far as what they would have and wouldn't have done last year that is an assumption you have know way of knowing that. You think you know but you don't know.

Shockey will create problems for this team, very crappy attitude.
