Saints 2007 Draft (1 Viewer)

Did everyone forget the OL?
We need to improve there as well.

Is there any OL out there who's first name starts with a "J"

I trust the F.O. will do what's best in the draft... I just want Brian Leonard if he's there in the 4th. Dude is a BEAST. He could back-up Deuce, play some FB, some H-back, and be a ST DEMON!

Depends on free agents. If we sign Nate Clements it diminishes our need for a CB, if we sign Donnie Edwards and/or Lance Briggs it reduces the need to draft a LB. Same goes if we sign Eric Johnson or Daniel Graham at tight end. My hope is for Alan Branch in the 1st and Fred Bennett in the 2nd after a succesful free agency haul

Alan Branch - Defensive Tackle, Michigan, 6-5, 332 (Jr.)

A mountain of a man in the middle on the Wolverine D-line and he does an excellent job stacking up things at the point of attack and collapsing the inside pocket. A massive presence (6-6, 331) on the interior, Branch is extremely strong, can stuff the run and also get after the quarterback

Fred Bennett - Cornerback, South Carolina, 6-1, 205

One of the best-kept secrets in the SEC. Has the speed and size to develop into a 1st rate match-up cornerback in the NFL."

Obviously, you are correct about free agent signings affecting the draft. I somewhat agree with the notion that you sign free agents to fill holes and then draft the best player on your board. I certainly think the Saints will be in the running to sign Edwards and will probably sign one of the guys that will be out there at TE. I haven't seen the likely free agent list, but IIRC there should be a number of veteran tight ends available. If Edwards and a veteran TE are signed in free agency, I believe the Saints' draft will be top heavy with CBs and linemen on both sides of the ball. And I think everyone is assuming that the Saints will re-sign Charles Grant and the other free agents that the Saints will have exposed. If Grant or the others are not re-signed, that could certainly change things.

I like the kid out of Cal at CB. We might do better with a veteran FA pick-up. Sully is still peeing on my parade. We need a 1st round DT.

No one has mentioned DE, which might be a possiblity if we can't resign Grant

You have to feel that with the way Grant feels about the city and the way the city feels about him he should sign.... If not there is always the franchise tag....

Gotta resign Grant. Let's say we sign Donnie Edwards- I think our LB's would be fine- at least not something to go out of our way with on the first day. TE and CB would be priorities with DT and WR being concerns (age a factor with Hollis and Horn). OL depth is also a need.

I keep saying it though, and there may not even be a player like this coming out or available for us next year- but if we had a guy in the Gates/Gonzales/Heap/Shockey/Crumpler range; OK- they don't have to be super-studs like Gates/Gonzales...but a real weapon at the TE spot NOBODY COULD STOP OUR OFFENSE. We have such a void there right now and yet Brees still tries/needs to get the TE involved. If we could get a guy that would be a weapon there we would be completely unstoppable.

Joe Thomas, but he'll be gone by pick 5.

from everything i've heard, i'll be shocked if we don't pick up a CB in round 1

I gave up on being shocked at us not picking CBs about 5 years ago.

Possible candidates:

Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio State
Buster Davis, ILB, Florida State
Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State

If get back on the winning track, however, Pitcock and McCauley may not be available to us when we pick!

What do you guys make of WR Dwayne Bowe from LSU? WR isn't exactly our most pressing need, but in the 2nd or 3rd round he might be a good value pick. However, maybe we should take Steve Smith from USC. Something about that name... hmmm.

MLB or CB needs to be addressed with our 1st round pick.

however if a playmaking WR falls to us, we should jump at it.

H.B. Blades would be nice.

Blades is who I want to draft. I think he is going to be great. Willis is of course more popular here because he plays in a neighboring state so we have seen him more. I would be happy with either because Willis is a good player also. I just would rather Blades, plus he has a cooler name. ( kidding)

I would rather go after DE and Briggs in FA.

Draft corners!

Never pick CB's in the first get a MLB or DT

cb's are made by the pass rush people..

#1 - TE - haven't had one since Walls
#2 - MLB, or any LB who is a strong pass rusher
#3 - WR - future #2 guy when Joe retires. Speed guy to strech field.

Spend rest of draft on Safeties....
