Interesting Reggie Bush tweets this evening.. (1 Viewer)

1st round pick, 3rd round pick and Chris Henry for Reggie Bush

I would do it.

Bush wouldn't garner a 1st rounder alone right now, much less a 3rd rounder and Chris Henry.

tee-hee, here's one that's gonna blow your minds for a while.

What if Coach Payton walked up to Bush and told him, "Hey? Most teams pay attention to twitter, right? I want you to go on and make some tweets that sound like you're disappointed cause you're not getting playing time this week."

Bush: "Wait, I'm not getting playing time this week?!"

Payton: "I just want the Eagles to think that. I'm gonna ram you down their throats Sunday."

I'm sooner to believe this as farfetched as it is than to believe some of the other speculation I've read on here.

Plus every time Reg is in the offense, the D has to account for him because he's so dangerous. It's a great way to create deception.

Reg is valuable even when he's not playing well.

Precisely. There were times in the game on last Sunday where he made the "invisible play." On the touchdowns to both Meachem and Henderson, Bush was used as a decoy on the play. In the play where Meachem scored, Bush ran out into the left flat. That forced the safety to play in and left Meachem in one-on-one coverage. On the play where Henderson scores, Bush ran a curl route underneath. That forced a linebacker and safety to pursue him in coverage. It also forced the safety playing deep to hesitate for a second as I presume he felt that once Drew stepped up in the pocket he would just dump it off to his check down receiver, which was Bush. Instead, Henderson broke off his route, and Drew was able to squeeze the ball in there. If the safety does not for one moment think that Bush is getting the ball, he probably could have gotten over to the ball more quickly and made a play.

The saints arent going to trade bush. he was leading the league in tds before he got injured last year.

This.

There is one possibility no one has mentioned.

Maybe REGGIE asked for a trade because he doesn't like his new diminished role.

I don't think Reggie is worth the money he's being paid. I'm fairly certain that FO agrees. He may be facing the prospect of not only a diminished role but also a HUGE cut in salary. If so, who wouldn't want out if he can get more playing time and more money somewhere else?!?!

Not this as much as you want this. First, what diminished role? He's still the starter, and still a guy who'll get 15 to 20 touches every game. Obviously, he was rusty last game and had a lot of mental lapses. Payton showed confidence by still coming back to Bush in the game despite his poor play. Bush is still your stater, and still a guy who'll get his carries, receptions and punt returns.

Also, what is a starter in the Saints offense? Other than Drew Brees and the offensive line, the Saints have so many packages that being a starter or a backup has no relevancy to how many times you'll get opportunities to play and touch the football. Case in point: Bush was in on 37 plays last week, Bell 36. Of Bell's 36 plays, he had 28 touches. Colston played 43 plays, Henderson 39, Meachem 29 and Moore 21. Again, what's a starter in Payton's offense?

Second, he's not the second string punt returner. Where did you get that information? At the same time, it is possible that the team might decide to allow him in a given week to focus more on rushing and receiving and not punt returning.

Finally, I like how you presume to know what the front office is thinking. Who are we planning to draft next year? Will we get some more athletic talent at LB or a more dominant NT to play next to Ellis?

My guess is that he's not returning punts right now. He needs to develop better ball security.

It is very well possible though Payton did say that he trusts Bush back there handling punts.

I would do it.

So in other words, you don't expect him to be traded.

I think retthib had it right. Bush seems to tweet a lot of philosophical and spiritual quotes. I think it's part of his process toward self-motivation, and also a way of coming of age. He seems to understand better the struggles he has had as a player thus far and is putting them into the right perspective. Rather than let it defeat him, he's trying to place it in the right context. We all have ups and downs. In addition, change can be something as simple as approach. A lot of times, we have approached something for so long that we are reluctant to make changes even if those changes would enable us to be more effective at our jobs or just living in general. I am as much inclined to take change in that regard than to believe that his tweet amounts to an implicit statement about being traded. Panic much? I'll say.

By the way, Jeff Duncan said around mid week that he expects to see a heavy dose of Reggie Bush against Philly, and that it could be a game where he catches 10 passes because of the way the Eagles like to scheme their defense. Doesn't sound like a diminished role.

This is a tempest in a teapot.

While Reggie's role has diminished, I think he is still Payton's guy. He is a tool in Payton's toolbox that he wouldn't want to be without this year.

Reggie's value is probably a 2nd round pick, or a 2nd and a 2 or 3 a year later.

Didn't Payton mention earlier this week that even Pierre returning wouldn't cut into Reggie's work load; and that it would be Bell and Pierre battling for touches? Wouldn't him being traded or sliding on the depth chart be completely contradictory? Oh well, mid-week commotion to pass time I guess.

Don't put too much stock into this, and I didn't want to make a post about it or anything because I hate when people make shock posts on here, but someone called me on Tuesday and told me they heard a rumor about the Saints shopping Bush to the Bengals for undisclosed draft picks in 2010 and 2011. Like I said, I'm just the messenger so don't shoot me. I wasn't going to post it originally, but now that I read this, I feel like I have an obligation to at least mention it, no matter how far fetched it may be.

We'll see.

where is truck man?

right here.

the Saints are not actively shopping Bush, but teams always call and inquire about players. right now from what i'm told is that Payton still feels Bush is neccessary to the success of the team and is a key element to our Offense. i don't see him being moved.

Best post I've read in this thread; I quoted my favorite parts above. Thanks! This makes the most sense to me, and brings up the point that the title "starter" doesn't mean anything, really, in terms of the role a player has on Payton's offense.

Reggie is being shopped sround, that is a fact. Reggie will be gone by the begenning of next season, not likely to the bengals. The patriots, charges, and San Fransisco ARE the most likely and not for a first rounder.

Personally, I thinks he goes to San Fransisco. I think he will blossom there like Marshall faulk did in St. Louis.

Good luck Reggie.

Who are you?

Like I said earlier in the thread, I think everyone is reading way to much into this. It's a quote people.

The only possible explanation, IMO, is that he won't be back there every punt anymore. He'll be used as a punt returner when we need a big play, or they see an opportunity. Even that's unlikely, IMO.

I have decided that what Reggie was doing was talking to someone else.

Giving advice to someone in need of it, and just didn't use the "reply" function, posting it 'live', as it were.

End of story.

Obviously we need sources for this "fact". Because if it's just what you truly believe, due to the way you see his play on the field and the other talent around him on this team, then it isn't fact, it's conjecture.

So... Source?
