Minter & Reid (1 Viewer)

Minter IS the best MLB in the draft! No doubt! You can scream "homerism" if you want to. This kid can play. You won't have problems off the field with him either.
As for Reid, he is a much better player than Harper. I like Roman, so this is nothing personal against him. Reid is just much better.
It wouldn't break my heart if they ended up on the Saints' roster. I personally think we have more pressing needs, but like I said, I wouldn't be upset.

I really like Minter. This guy is going to be a beast in the NFL. IMO the best middle linebacker coming out of the draft. The problem is that if you trade back, you need to have a slew of guys you might want to pick, cause the Bears, Texans, and the Steelers all want ILBs. I think if some of the top OLBs and LTs are not on the board then we shoudl trade down.

I think Reid is a good player, but I would rather Matt Elam. Doesn't have the size of Reid, but way better instincts. At the safety position, its instincts that matter the most.

I'd rather Jamie Collins and Phillip Thomas.

Really? Have you seen Minter play? He is 2 time all SEC mlb...why is everyone so enamoredwith Collins? He seems like more of a project to me...Minter is ready to step on the field right away and will be solid...probable probowler for many yrs...not saying we need to draft him because we have much more pressing needs than mlb but Minter will be a baller...

^finally someone with some sense regarding Collins. I thought I was the only one who didn't find him to be all that impressive. He's athletic, but needs coaching. Minter is a tackling machine, something out defense sorely lacks. I'm definitely in the school of thought that has us going OLB in round 1, but on trade down scenarios I could be ok with minter.

Agreed...I feel if we have option of trading back and get 2nd rounder we should take it. I would like for us to take one of the elite pass rushers but Im afraid they wont be there...maybe we get lucky and have Richardson fall to us? If not hopefully we can find somebody that will be willing to trade...

I think you are just too big of a LSU homer ......... Minter and Reid are nowhere close to what we need to strengthen our defense ....... Reid is the extended version of Roman Harper ....

Yeah, the pick at #15 should clearly be Tavon Austin. :9:

While I don't think Minter or Reid play positions of real need for this team, they will both likely be good players in the NFL. Reid is faster and has better ball skills than Harper, but who knows if he will have the instincts and work ethic to be better than Harper. Minter is a bit limited athletically, but as a 3-4 ILB he should be the same tackling machine that he was at LSU. He will likely be weak against he pass, but he will make tackles.

So, while wanting them both is likely some LSU homerism, neither would be a bad pick even if they are not positions of need. And, I wonder why a bit of homersim for LSU is such a bad thing. I mean, the team is from NOLA and the LA part of that stands for Louisiana. And, the flagship public University in Louisiana is LSU. So, folks who are Saints fans and don't happen to also be LSU fans, probably need to get used to a bit of homerism for the largest school in the state where the team is located.

And, I'm sure the mountaineer dude and the USM, Tulane and La Tech people around here have just as much homerism for the guys from their schools who are NFL caliber. It's just that they simply don't have as many as LSU does and they can't seem to get over that. I mean, if Collings didn't go to USM, would there really be that much talk about him on this board? If he went to the University of Southern Oregon, maybe ten people on this board would even know who he is.

In short (heh), get over it.

I would NOT be against getting back into the second to snag Minter. He would be an upgrade to Vilma eventually if not immediately. He's going to be very good.

Richardson is gonna be a good player, but for someone who runs a 4-3. I was watching him today and he isn't quite big enough. We have our DE taken care of with Jordan and hicks/smith. If anything on d line it'll be NT later in the draft. We have issues in the back seven, particularly at LB because we need good depth to run the defense we have coming up. Have to have two inside starting calibers, which we do not have. Have to have at least 3-4 pass rushing OLB's, where we only have 2 possibilities (no sure things). I think with signing Lewis we helped the CB spot, and I'm starting to get off the nnamdi wagon. Then we won't even get into safety issues haha. All this ties back into the fact that 1. We MUST draft defense in the first, and 2. I'm not opposed to taking minter/ogletree/Elam/Cyprien if we trade down.

I thought Richardson was bigger...was thinking him for NT...anyway I believe Lofton and Hawthorne are startin caliber ILB....but agree we need to go defense...hopefully we can addresz pass rusher need early...wouldnt be opposed to drafting safety early if one of those top guys availale...I think we need to get a playmaker on defensive side with first pick...somebody who. Can step in and make immediate impact wether it be olb, safety, nt....whichever

Richardson is an ideal 4-3 DT like Bunkley. Kind of a tweener. And as for Hawthorne, he has issues staying healthy. I don't know if I trust him for the whole year. But no doubt OLB is top priority, unless one of the top 3 tackles fall.

Yeah...we can probably get dline later in draft...back 7 definitely top priority

Well, some good news on that back 7, signing victor butler. Probably rotational but he may blossom with more playing time.

Richardson could be also be a good 3-4 DE, in the right system. He is agile enough.
