N/S Carpenter's wife message for Richard Sherman (1 Viewer)

Forget it man. These are the same people that voted a racist into the White House and are telling us to just give the man a chance while mocking people that are upset about it.

I suggest just bowing out of this thread. You will never win - WE will never win.

If you can't analyze context the problem is on you.

First things first, I'm going to move this to the EE board, as it has gone far enough away from anything football related.

As to Ms. Carpenter, she seems to me to be that typical "mommy-blogger" type of personality who is extremely interested in having people listen to her stories and advice much more than she is interested in theirs. So any attempts by her to publicize herself should be taken as such. I don't think she is capable of any other motivation.

Having ventured to her blog, (the latest entry being something called "white trash sangria". Seriously.) she is from Montana, and lives in upstate New York, so I don't think that she has much experience with people of color, or understand how something she said could be interpreted in a way that she didn't anticipate.

He apology was in no way an apology. She did not apologize at all. And that really should be, in my opinion, the last bit of attention that should be given to her going forward.

Well this past week on the WWE Smackdown which took place in Scotland one of the new Wwe stars named James Ellsworth showed up, John Bradshaw Layfield(JBL) was like " what he doing here, i thought they didnt let animals through customs" . This James Ellsworth guy may be the most whitest person ever.

Here's the difference as I see it. Black people were actually thought of as livestock. They were purchased for the intention of working farmland, just as one would a horse or mule. Some were castrated and turned into human geldings, to prevent their breeding with other slaves that their owners wanted bred with others.

It is going to mean something different to descendants of slaves to hear that term used than it is to me.

This is 100% nonsense. To my knowledge castration was only done for crimes of a sexual nature. There were far more brutal ways to control slaves.

I would be interested in the "breeding" comment source(s) as well. I certainly haven't read that in any book or ex-slave interviews that was conducted in the early 20th century.

Your knowledge is clearly and obviously limited by your own closed minded mentality. Your tunnel vision is the stuff of legends. I get it as well sometimes but to say what he said was 100% nonsense is really all I needed to see to conclude that you lack worthwhile reasoning skills.

If it doesn't fit what you have in your mental Rolodex it's discarded. You have a very unique ability to assume only your POV and the POV of others that share your sight is all that is right.

Interesting study you are, as you are smart..but could obviously be smarter with some tinkering to how you accept new knowledge. Yet that is a trait developed early..that time has passed for you. Set in your ways shall we say?!?

More importantly your need to fact check completely caused you to disregard the most important part of the post

That simple

It was a South Carolina law that a slave would receive a branded "R" on their cheek after the first attempt to run away, and males would be castrated on any subsequent attempt.

As for breeding purposes, male slaves were inspected sometime around puberty, and underdeveloped males were castrated on the spot. An uncastrated male was expected to in most cases procreate at a specific level. I forget the actual numbers. I'll find some source material on these though.

The South Carolina legislature pioneered these laws in the 1690s, mandating that for the first offense, male and female slaves would be branded with an “R” on the cheek. For a second offense, female slaves would have an ear cut off, while male slaves would be castrated. It is not clear how often these punishments were actually carried out, but one episode of slave castration caused a furor in a South Carolina Baptist congregation in 1710. The church was torn by arguments about whether to discipline a member who had castrated a runaway. We don’t know for sure what happened in the case, but some of the church’s leaders explained that enforcing the law would prevent “vagrancy, theft, robbery, insurrections, and outrages” by the slaves.

How Violent Was American Slavery? Colonial Slave Codes

I took her words as an emotional response for a foul play against her husband.

You really need to be told what racism is?

Or this

I do not think it reduces anything, but create frustration and target those who are not actually racists at all.

It is interesting you chose a southern location. Perhaps this is the extent of your experiences. I lived in Chicago and met a lot of racists people.

I have some strong feelings about any type of discrimination. These are simply from my point of view and that point of view is extremely limited to the entire scope of these problems. I appreciate you sharing the problems in Chicago also. I wish it weren't so. We are 150 years removed from the Civil War. But I can hope for a better world for our children and an end to the suffering of those discriminated against.

Edit: I'll never forget what coach Darrell Royal ("Coach")screamed in the 19th hole at Barton Creek club when he was strongly pushing for immediate financial help to get Earl Campbell the medical care, housing and income he desperately needed. One of the powerful white UT alumni said, "I love Earl, but he's not one of us." Coach screamed back across the room, "These players who give their bodies and sometimes minds for our Burnt Orange will always be our kids. Color made no difference when Earl was ripping defenses apart. As long as I am alive, we will take care of all our kids."

Just for now, let's all Who Dats unite in our goal to beat the Broncos.

I guess this is the new political correctness. You must character assassination by assigning an unintended context for a statement.

There are REAL victims of racism and yet they are overshadowed by these false assumptions. IMO, what is is stupid is people who have been duped that this is ever going to change anything. Personally, I had to laugh when someone associated what that woman said (animal & castration) to something that happened during the "Jim Crow era." Yes, that is exactly what that woman was thinking when she said that. LOL Really. This is stupidity and I am not validating stupidity regardless how indignant anyone gets.

People are so sick of this pc garbage they elected Trump. The loony left brought him on themselves.

I do not post on this forum often enough in regularity for you to even come close to making this assessment. Apart from you being presumtuous now, I have no idea what or how you think beyond the few posts I have read in the thread. I know you posted elsewhere, but I do not "track" the positing of any one person.

If it doesn't fit what you have in your mental Rolodex it's discarded. You have a very unique ability to assume only your POV and the POV of others that share your sight is all that is right.
This is all based on how many posts? As a teacher I encouraged critical thinking and my beliefs has continuously evolved over the years. You wouldn't know that.

Yes I like to visit Saints Report and read and post on the forum and when I do, I really enjoyed an unprovoked ad homenin.

Maybe you should had posted what I misunderstood or overlooked instead of insulting me? A thought

That simple
What is simple? Am I supposed to turn around and insult you as well? Well, I am not going to do that. If you cannot engage in a discussion with someone who you do not agree I suggest, you refrain from discussing anything with me. I do ot like ad hom and I do not resort to them either.

I actually owned this: Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers' Project, 1936-1938

Most of the interviews were mostly children or adolescent at the time. I suggest you take what is written with a little bit of grain of salt.

One of the units I have taught is the Slavery System and the Slave Trade. I am not exactly ignorant on the subject and I have my own resources.

By all means, share with us your sources on this. I didn't call you ignorant, nor did I indicate that you had no knowledge base from which to argue. I also did not claim to be any type of authority on the subject.

You made the "100% nonsense" claim, so the onus would at this point be on you to show me the errors of my information.
