Will Jameis Winston become a, Edited for Self Protection Lol, "Competent" QB under Bruce Arians? (1 Viewer)

I am a big FSU Fan who enjoyed Winston in College, he dominated. As a resident of Tampa and reading camp reports, he continues to digress. Being picked apart by rookie Corners and safeties. Id say if there is one person that can get the best out of him itll be Bruce Arians, but I wouldnt be surprised if Gabbert or Griffen end the season as starting QB.

My prediction is Arians will throw him under the bus during a post-game press conference and then bench him. I predict that will happen before week 12.

Hey thenewpac - Do you know if Arians really wants to get rid of Winston and is being forced to try and upgrade the former #1 pick of the draft? Thx

Bruce Arians is a solid coach and Winston is a solid QB (with maturity issues) I think it was a pretty good hire for TB and the overall team will be better Winston included...so I'm going to say yes.

To me, Winston has been the ultimate tease, kinda like schizophrenic until now. When he is on, I don't think, except for Mahomes, there is a more lethal passer in the league. But he has never risen to his draft number. Now Bruce Arians as HC. We all know Arians is one of the top offensive minds in football. Will he be able to make Winston into a top tier QB? And even with Arians, does Winston have the Big Game clutch performance skill?

I don't know about Winston, but I don't like Arians in our division.

No. His problems don't stem from bad coaching. I just think he is a fair to middling NFL Quarterback. Nothing wrong with that but expecting Arians to make him even close to All-Pro caliber is wishful thinking.

He's a 1st round pick, a pro bowler, and a pepsi rookie of the year winner.

Um no. QB rating goes up to 158.3, so maybe in the 1960’s and 1970’s an 88 QB rating would be considered pretty good but times have drastically changed. League average QB rating in 2017 was 88.6, so he’s at best an average QB.

Exactly!

I disagree. Bruce Arians was Peter King's (and some others) favorite coach will with the Cardinals, he brought them some modest success there but the team digressed to a point where he decided to retire. The media mostly loved him (very similar to Jeff Fisher). I'm thrilled he is now the TB coach....I really don't think he is solid, plus he is 66 years old, he is not a rising young offensive or defensive genius that is going to be around for the next 5-10 years...I really think he will be gone after year 2....

Winston has very good skills, he has the skills to be a very good NFL QB, but he is far from "solid"...he has maturity issues, which lead to inconsistency and problems dealing with and bouncing back from the issues that it causes, I would call that the opposite of solid....were he solid he would be a good NFL QB....

I think I'm tired of hearing the same old excuse of "lack of maturity" for his lack of development as a player (or any player IMO). From my limited knowledge about Winston he acts exactly the same at 25 as he did at 19. I'm not anything close to an expert in psychology or any ology but having tremendous physical talent shouldn't be used as a crutch for a lack in personal growth and a lack of leadership. I dont see anything in his personal growth that would lead me to believe he could overcome an emotional challenge like you'd find in a championship run. Unless Bruce is moving into his pocket or pulling a QB whisperer like McVay I don't see him lasting one more season in TB.
TBs only hope is to do like Cryolina did. Turn the team over to a stud Defense and hope your pouty egocentric QB doesn't cost you any games.
