Pete Werner: An extensive breakdown. (2 Viewers)

I know SP loves Ohio State Players but IMO Jabril Cox would have been a much better pick than Werner. Cox had as many or more impact plays in one season than Werner did in 4. While Werner might be a tackling machine which is good, not allowing the catch and yards is a lot better.

Instincts, the ability to truly know the assignments to not overthink and great angles to not OVERPURSUE. Having the ability to diagnose movement and take the correct angle for containment with a slower straight line speed is something I will take all day and everyday in a coverage LB. They might give up an extra yard, but I would rather very disciplined play than bad angles or over pursuing giving up a 15yd YAC or run. If he can do that, great! The more assets we have in pure coverage and side line to side line pursuit and containment that eliminates chunk plays, you can't ask for anymore than that. As I have mentioned since the end of last season, I think that is where our D is gravitating to...a simpler, more attacking D with rangy players to contain and stop those stretches that just have killed us in past.

I'm just going to chime with a better pics of Demario. (Love the Jordan 11's, powder gold patent leather)

Cox went in the 4thā€¦ the NFL disagrees that he was a better prospect.

Cox went in the fourth because teams werenā€™t sure if he was fully healthy. Dallas took the gamble because they already have a stacked LB core. Cox is healthy now but he was having back problems ( I think ) during that time.

Yeah, cause NFL teams always get draft picks right every time. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, Marcus Colston, beg to differ.
šŸ˜‚ā€¦ and Iā€™m sure your track record is betterā€¦ šŸ˜‚

and nice list of all time great draft ā€œmissesā€ā€¦ I bet you had those guys all mocked in the 1st those years.

NFL teams dont always get it right but fans would never get it right if they didnā€™t have someone elseā€™s draft guide in their hand.

Never said I did, you made the statement that just because Dallas drafted Cox in the 4th means Werner is better which isnā€™t true at all. I just named a very small sample of guys that prove just because your ā€œDRAFTED by an NFL TEAMā€ in a later round doesnā€™t mean anything. There are a lot of things that go into Teams selecting draft picks. Iā€™d say the fact that Werner played all 4 years at a Big school like OSU where as Cox only had one year in a big school program probably had a lot to do it. But the fact is, in that one year Cox had better stats in the passing game (3 INTs and 5 pass breakups to Wernerā€™s 4 year career of 0 INTs and 13 PBUs).

Thatā€™s not trueā€¦ Dallas drafted the kid from ND, Jaylon Smith, who had a horrible knee injury, at #34 (TOP OF 2nd)ā€¦ many thought he may not play again. If anything, the Cowboys more likely over drafted him.

Cox is terrible in run defense and has several holes in his game. Cox has GREAT athletic scores which even further lends to the idea that he didnā€™t play the game at the level he needed to.

Itā€™s not cuz he may have had a minor injury he might still be recovering from.

Stop it manā€¦ you were suggesting that you think that Cox was better then Warnerā€¦ I stated that the NFL disagrees with you and that is a fact.

who knows who WILL be better because everyone knows anything could happen. But to suggest Cox IS better is a arrogant assertion based on some personal presence.

Since neither have played a down in a game yet there is no telling who is better, just stated an opinion. I just stated you are wrong in the fact that just because Werner got drafted before Cox does not mean heā€™s better, there are a lot of things that weighted the Saints decision to draft Werner. As I pointed out and Iā€™m sure youā€™ve seen over the years, no draft pick pick is a sure thing and there have been many players picked higher than others who failed to be better!

Martez Wilson, Stanley Arnoux, Stephone Anthony, Anzalone...

I know there's no correlation between coincidence, but I think it's refreshing that the Saints didn't draft another incredible athlete with questionable positional instincts. I mean, yes, would love to get that athletic LB with great instincts one day, and who know perhaps Cox is just that, but I'm going to give the staff credit for getting a player who looks like he has a great grasp on what he should be doing and is not just an athletic specimen.
