What would it take for Payton to rejoin the Saints? (1 Viewer)

I know this is a long shot, but if he's willing to coach again in a year or two (assuming DA is no longer the coach), what would it take for him to rejoin the Saints?
Well if you believe what you read around here, it's at least two first round picks šŸ˜Ž

1. CSP left us voluntarily.

2. He was still under contract.

3. Heā€™s waltzing around like a celebrity.

4. D.A. went through a vetting process, and was deemed the BEST qualified candidate.

5. Weā€™ll always grateful for all he brought to our franchise, butā€¦ Dennis Allen is now our coach; no regrets. Paytonā€™s ship šŸš¢ has already sailed.

:gosaints:

Yeah I do believe that if we had Maholmes or even Watson, I don't think he would have retired. It just goes to show you that Franchise QBs don't grow on trees.
Indeed they don't

He is not coming back. The Saints are not going to part ways with Allen after one or two years, and Payton would not want to be responsible for the firing of the coach he obviously recommended to be his successor. Also, I think Payton wants to coach for a high-profile team in a bigger market to help his chances of HOF admission one day.

He may have needed a break--but the reason last year was so challenging was that he did not have a quarterback. In New Orleans, he was able to check off every box for an organization--except having a top-tier quarterback.

Translation:

ā€œIf I can find another generational qb to hitch my wagon to and ride their coat tails to the HoF, Iā€™m in. If itā€™s a challenge though, Iā€™ll be on Fox Sunday.ā€

If it was really about coaching a ā€œhigh profileā€ team, he would have left a decade ago.

I can't recall a single instance of a HC 'retiring' from a team and then coming back to the same team a few years later, maybe it's happened.

Payton's not coming back to the Saints, I think he's a lock to go to the Cowboys next year or the year after.

Money talks. 100 million 5 years is his ā€œgood situationā€
