Don’t change the subject. In this post’s context, we are specifically talking about the Saints and Bucs.

Bro, I’m responding to someone who said that we were better than the Bucs bc we had the same regular season record. Who won the division? Who won a playoff game? Who did not win the division? Who did not win a playoff game? By that person’s metric, the Ravens (who had the best regular season record) is better than the Super Bowl Champions. That does NOT make any sense

Since yall only think in Black and Gold, then let me ask this. In 2009, the Colts had a better regular season record than us. Do yall think that the Colts were the better team? Nope, they didn’t accomplish more than we did. We took the title as being the best. Doesn’t matter what you regular season record is. What matters is how much you accomplished. We didn’t accomplish more than the Bucs this past year. So no, the Bucs were better than we were.

I disagree with your premise, but it is what it is.

I think the hottest and luckiest team wins the SB. Sometimes that IS the best team, but a lot of times it’s just the team that got the lucky call or ball bounce or coin toss or the right matchups (especially with injuries factored in) at the right time.

A single elimination tournament involving teams in a league ruled by parity creates this dynamic.

I honestly don’t think I’m the one making this a hard concept. Two teams finish with the same exact record with a head to head split are the same level.

Just because one team wins an arbitrary tiebreaker based on games outside of the pair the two teams played in order to win first place of an arbitrary four team sector grouping does not make one “better” than the other.

You seem to be the only one that thinks otherwise. We can just agree to disagree though.

It has to do with this topic because if you are going to be all high and mighty about "educating" the rest of us, your record on football opinions better be spotless or you look like you just have an over inflated opinion about the value of your opinions when all of us, save very few, are just fans giving opinions with little to no actual knowledge.

Incorrect bc we can’t say that we were wrong bc we never got him. All you have to go on is that the Browns were wrong until this point. For all we know, he could’ve came here and led us to the playoffs?!?! I mean, he was 5-1 in his first 6 games this year before his injury. So we cant say that we were wrong bc you are speaking on assumptions.

What we CAN say is that the Bucs checked off 2 of their goals this past year by winning the division and advancing in the playoffs……

While we did NOT accomplish 1 goal that was made before the season

We couldn’t win the worst division in the NFL, along with the easiest schedule, plus our schedule was even more easy with injuries to key players on our opposition. In a division where the QBs were Desmond Ridder, Bryce Young, and Baker Mayfield…….let that sink in for a minute

We are not debating who had the most successful, satisfying season conclusion. I think that’s clearly the disconnect here.

You put heavy weight on how a team’s season concludes when defining a team’s ability versus another, where as folks like myself feel that those things are generally arbitrary and based on elements of luck at a specific time rather than ability displayed over a full season’s body of work.

Obviously winning the single elimination tournament at the end of the year is the end all be all goal, but as far as measuring up teams against one another in a vacuum, especially those in the same 9-8/average realm, I don’t put much weight into that.

Were the 2002 Bucs, who finished 12-4 but were swept by a Saints team that matched up better versus them than just about every other team, better than the Saints that year?

I acknowledge they were the SB winners and deserve to be crowned “the best,” but on the field, who is the better team if one team has your number and beats you anytime you play them?

Just trying to hear more of your philosophy on a granular level.
