Early take on how we match up next week vs. Dallas? (1 Viewer)

After reading this thread, I'm picking the Pokes in SurvivorBowl this week. :melike:

Uhh, I just can't :covri: ... I would feel like a huge bucket of filth to click that button. :shame:

The Saints vs Cowboys have been fairly low scoring games the last three meetings. As Elias pointed out, in the last three matchups, two of the games were determined by a field goal or less. The only two score win for Dallas came with Hill at QB and he had a thumb injury and threw four interceptions. Without those four interceptions, it would have likely been another game with a field goal determining the winner.

When I see how the Saints offense is currently built and the lack of experience at some key positions, and compare it to the strengths of the Cowboys defense, do I want to let Dallas' premier pass rush go after a rookie LT and a finding his feet RT? Or do I want to punch them in the mouth 50 times with Kamara, Williams, and Hill, and let these young Tackles bully the line of scrimmage?

We've all watched Sean Payton's and Drew Brees' high flying assault come to a complete halt in games like this. They struggled to find rhythm, they forced plays that weren't there.

I don't believe Dallas can win a ground and pound game. Dak will get desperate and start throwing to Saints players and the Saints will dominate the line of scrimmage and time of possession.
Just go deep on the opening possession. Let them know they better respect it and we are not scared.

All I know is that the Cowboys always lose to the 49ers and got their stuff pushed in against the Packers in the playoffs... And the Saints run that style offense. So I'm thinking the Cowboys won't be able to stop the Saints run game and will struggle playing from behind against the Saints elite DBs

One thing I find interesting is the fact that Kubiak was Zimmer’s OC the one year he was a play caller and from what’s been said Mike was very difficult for Klint to work under. Hopefully Klint brings it against the old man and gets a little revenge.
That old man can still call a good defense though...haha.

This is where I begin to see who we really are, especially with our O-line going against that front. Sunday was so freaking awesome but I said that I'm giving it 6 games because we face some hitters. I think it will be a tight game because I just looked at a video of the Cowboy's defense and I don't know if it is just the Browns suck or what, but they made them look foolish. I think we can pull it out if we can get to Dak because I'm not sold on their run game this season. I'm thinking 23-17, with us getting the win.

Do they out talent us??? I’d love to hear this
They do on the Defensive line, most of the starting roster on both sides kind of mirror each other though. You cant really gauge on how the game will play out, Dallas will have an edge because of experience and being at home. One thing that Dallas does well in recent years is having talent that over achieves beyond what their talent really is, why they never reached a conference title game or beat any real contenders. So this will certainly test if we are contenders or not win or lose.

How come all of that talent on their D Line can’t stop the run? Maybe their team is just overrated or overhyped?!?! I will say that by them adding Kendricks has/will help them over the middle. It won’t be enough for them.

The Cowboys are just an another team. They have a crap run game, and 1 really good offensive weapon. We just have to neutralize Ceedee and we will be good there. If we come out firing like we did today, then we will win in grand fashion.
Can’t lie that run game don’t look the same without pollard back there. Still have some weapons but Cooks is one hit away from concussion I’m sure. Cover TE and Lamb.

Alot of it is over rated but like i say, they win off a bunch of over achievers.

You have to dig deeper into the Stats. They where ranked:

23rd in Rush Defense
29th in Scoring Defense
27th in Red Zone Defense
25th in Points per game
32nd in Sacks(Traded away Burns there best pass rusher)
30th in INT

So yeah they where 4th in yards allowed per game, but that stat is meaningless. In fact it's likely attributed to the fact that teams had short fields and did not need a ton of yardage to score on them.

When you look at there Def DOVA from last year they ranked 25. So in summary no the Panthers did not have a good defense last year and after trading away there best defensive player it will likely be worse this year.
You could say that because they had to defend short fields that's why they were 29th in scoring D and PPG , it also skews RZ D

Carolina's D was 28th in PPG and last in Takeaways in 2023. Their #4 ranking is based on short fields due to Bryce. They got worse in the offseason trading Burns. They are a 2-15 team that might go 1-16 or worse.
And short fields lead to giving up more PPG
