Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (1 Viewer)

Y’all still want him?

If we can sign him for whatever the minimum is, sure. I’m feeling a lot better about our chances against the Rams and Commanders after watching them today.

We should absolutely kick the tires on him in the offseason. Just because his production went down with an in shambles Jets team with a almost washed up AR does not mean Kubiak could do wonders with him, especially with Olave and Shaheed and maybe MVS. WR is a priority I'd rather do it with the draft but if we sign him to a reasonable deal we could go DL in the draft

Signing Adams should definitely NOT preclude the Saints from drafting a WR.

Agree. Sign Adams, re-sign MVS, get Olave and Shaheed healthy, with Means as the young understudy, and let’s roll. That’s a solid WR core right there, one you can win with.

Agreed. I like the idea of Means learning behind Adams as they are similar and both play the X. I really like MVS as a Big Z which allows Shaheed to be more of a weapon. Olave is still a question mark, but if the reports are true that he's trying to do some neck strengthening, that could help on some of those hits/hits to the ground. I'm curious what Kevin Austin Jr. can develop into, maybe he's the slot/Y.

I'm worried about Olave's concussion issues and as good as MVS has been since joining the team, I'm not fully sold on him yet. If he keeps performing like this until the end of the season, I'll be more confident, but he's still got a history of drops and why he hasn't stayed on a team. I do hope his career is rejuvenated but he still has to go out and do it.

That's two question marks, and adding Adams who has had his own issues this season and he's not getting any younger, we really need a reliable and young WR1 and don't have that right now.

Reliable #1s don’t grow on trees as you know. Think we have to put together a hodgepodge type group and hope one of them emerges.

A guy like McMillan would be a fun guy to get out of the draft to be a potential number 1 down the line, but he will likely be out of range (I see us winning several more games).

I understand they don't grow on trees, but you should still always be looking for one.

Davante Adams is not going to sign with the Saints.

The last thing Loomis needs to do is add a declining veteran to the cap. And if he jut got effective guys off the street, then he's not going to chase Davante Adams.

If you're Davante Adams' agent, you look at the Saints and see a team with a busted cap, 4 meh seasons in a row, and possible transition at head coach and the staff. You know Loomis will lowball the offer. Derek Carr may be a close friend, but Aaron Rodger's situation shows that going to play with old veteran friends on non-contending teams is a bad idea.

It’s clear to me that with this player, playing with close friends means something to him. Besides, it’s not like the Raiders were some model organization when he went there to be with Carr.

I won’t get into the cap stuff other than to say if we want him, we can make a competitive offer to get him and make the numbers work, easily.

Adams is going to want a bigish contract regardless of what happened in New York and I think he's going to get it from someone. And I suspect our spending the next offseason will be similar to this past offseason which means no big deals, maybe one medium sized deal (Young) and several lower level deals. (Gay, Harris, Wilson, etc.) I think Loomis is serious about getting the cap closer to even in anticipation of making a run and spending when they find a franchise QB.

So given the limited money we are likely to spend, I would much rather spend those limited resources on the DL or LG than at WR. If we keep running the same system we mostly use 2 WRs anyway and I would rather see the money spent on a real need along the DL and at LG. We can get by at WR with lower level guys like MVS, developing guys like Means, and drafting a WR in rounds 1 to 3. And maybe Means makes a big leap in year two or you hit big on WR in the draft.

To me Adams is the kind of guy you add to a team that is a good veteran WR away from making a run for the Super Bowl and the Saints aren't going to be that team next year.

And all of this is contingent on whether the Saints keep Derek Carr. I think they likely will, but there is a chance they hire a head coach that wants to move on or even Rizzi might want to move on. And if Carr goes, I see no way that Adams comes here.

I'm not going to be seduced by an aging vet who did something something years ago. And no, the cap is full and needs to stop being assaulted.

If you are drunk on high priced washed free agents...

giphy.webp
Except he won't be high priced. If you can get him on a vet minimum or close to it, you do it every time and twice on Sunday.

And he actually did have some nice plays when he was with the Jets. That team is as dysfunctional as they come right now.

I don't know if Adams still wants to play with Carr and I don't know if we'd sign him, but if the team feels like he brings something to the table at a reasonable price, it's a no-brainer.

I don't see anyone signing him to a big contract after the issues he's had with both the Raiders and Jets. Are they both bad teams? Sure. Does that mean he doesn't have his own issues? No, not really. Teams looking to acquire him are gonna look for a cheap-ish deal or pass on him. I'm not sure anyone is gonna sign him to a big contract for someone who might end up being a rental.
