Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (9 Viewers)

Travers Mackel is interpreting Cantrell's remarks as meaning domestic terrorism.

NOPD's "special ops" bomb squad unit just arriving at FQ. FBI is the "lead"

Just remembered I've stayed at Royal Sonesta on NYE about 20 years ago. I loved the fireworks on the dueling barges on the river accompanied by the band standing on the railing near JAX Brewery. That was a great experience.

ETA: Just a little light thought here. It is so weird seeing twins Fletcher and Travers on split screen.

They keep showing an Earth Cam shot of a police-manned cordoned off area on Bourbon. Only thing I can identify is a Krazy Corner Balcony sign which is 640 Bourbon.

I am now going crazy trying to monitor all the local stations.

"Device planted at Orleans and Bourbon"
Bomb squad just "detonated" whatever this device is apparently. Fletcher saying it was very small but did hear the "fire in the hole" warning.

Having never been to NO, does the fact that it was after 3:00 and not right around midnight / 1:00 make more sense that it was more local people than tourists?

In New Orleans, on Bourbon Street on New Year's Day? Not really. I think it just happened this way, could have easily been the other way around.

For me? No. Bourbon Street seems like the last place I'd want to be as a local (unless I was working there which, frankly, does make me wonder whether many of these locals weren't people working at the various places up and down Bourbon) at Mardi Gras firstly (something I will never, ever, ever do again is try to hit Bourbon right after attending Endymion) with NYE being the second least favorite night to be walking Bourbon (though, like I said, I did do that 20 years ago but we weren't really hitting the establishments)

I will say that although this will likely be a HUGE strike against NOLA for football fans as the Sugar Bowl is today and as NOLA is hosting the upcoming Super Bowl, having been one of the many, many, many fans who happened to be in New Orleans the night we won the Super Bowl (though not on Bourbon), it was wild to be here but it was not nearly the craziness that was expected to erupt were we to actually win and I didn't feel unsafe. It was just a town really happy for their football team.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I automatically assumed domestic terrorism. With the number of mass shootings in this country, when I hear about terrorism on American soil I automatically think domestic.
When a driver plows into a crowd it is either usually alcohol or terrorism. When they get out shooting it closes any questions.

I've never understood why it matters where someone is from when considering whether it is terrorism or not.

Yeah the national and intl news was cutting into WDSU coverage earlier and i thought it’s gotta be really confusing to viewers unaware there are twin local news guys and who think theyre seeing “the same guy” both reporting and then anchoring …

I don't it does, definitionally. The issue is whether there's a political motivation, if my understanding is correct.
