League insiders tells Tony Pauline that Aaron Glenn will end up being Saints Head Coach [Edit: Underhill says no decision is close to being made] (1 Viewer)

Im not trying to defend Loomis here at all (I'm ready for a full reset top to bottom myself) but why do we all of a sudden think Loomis is some kind of control freak who needs a “yes man” to be his next head coach? Loomis himself was quite literally Sean Payton’s “yes man” for years. I know he’s mentioned continuity on several occasions, but I honestly don’t believe that’s still a deciding factor on our next head coach. Even Loomis has to realize that didn’t work at this point.

The reality is, no matter who is hired as the next head coach, they are inheriting a team in salary cap hell. May as well hire someone who thinks they can win with what you have, because you don’t have the cap flexibility for a reset. Then after two years when the cap is right, you can reset with another new staff if needed.

I think that the next Saints HC is a lame duck anyway…so whatever. This is what Loomis has created…complete apathy and hopelessness.
Yep. And if Loomis really does try to control the staff of the next coach, then he might finally be ousted (from his role if not the organization) and we can do a REAL reset in 2-3 years with a new GM and coach.

Sad state of affairs but this is what you get with a Mickey Loomis run program.

No, that's what you choose to wallow in.

Loomis has a big problem, Saints fans now know what a competent coaching staff looks like....the last coaching staff Loomis put in place reminded me of the Mecom days.....I don't really get the ML support right now, he's nearing 70 and should retire, we need a revamped FO.....

Don't think there is anything wrong with wallowing in disappointment given the last 3 years.....

It's not a question of supporting Loomis or not. Most, including me would like him replaced as the GM, but the reality is that is highly unlikely to happen. And while Loomis has many problems, he has also successfully hired a HC in the past and helped to build a Championship roster and a roster that was competing for championships for 15 years. He is almost 70, and maybe he won't pick the right HC this time. But, that doesn't mean he can't get it right and it doesn't mean that every rumor from any source is worth panicking and crying about.

The post from Underhill tells you the situation with the coaching search. The search is not over and they plan to look at a wide range of candidates. In the end, we can't change whether Loomis is GM or who he hires as HC. And frankly we won't know for at least a year after that whether it was the right choice or not. I don't get the point of freaking out about every single rumor until then. But, some people do love to wallow in misery and pessimism which they are obviously free to do. But it's going to make it a really long offseason around here if every thread is just filled with variations of "Loomis sucks", "we can't win as long as Loomis is here", "doesn't matter as long as Loomis is GM", etc.
