League insiders tells Tony Pauline that Aaron Glenn will end up being Saints Head Coach [Edit: Underhill says no decision is close to being made] (2 Viewers)

I think the first part is fair, but I'm not sure how Glenn is really an insular hire. He only spent one year here as a player and 4 years as DB coach. He spent most of his career with the Jets and the last 3 years coaching in Detroit. Yes, he has some connections to the team and knows the City, but I don't see him as a continuation of anything. And I can't see someone who coached under Campbell and is a former good NFL player being a yes man for any GM.

I mean it's not like Glenn hasn't been talked about as a top HC candidate for the last couple years and there are rumors that he really wants the Jets job.

Also, I don't know that even DA was Loomis' yes man. I think it was more that Loomis was DAs yes man, trying to get Watson for him and getting Carr for him. And that giving DA what he wanted and failing to fire DA earlier is Loomis' true major flaw.
Exactly! Loomis does what the HC tells him to do. He did what Payton wanted and he did what DA wanted.

This is another reason I'd prefer Vrabel as HC. He knows talent and knows how to build a team. He could unleash ML to get the players he needs to do just that.

I'm still not entirely sold on him, but you did help me thaw on him. I just need to marinate on it much longer than 30 minutes.

Ummmmm……well, I’m a fan of Glenn, and wouldn’t be opposed to the hire.
However, it was reported that ML will hire someone he “knows”, along with the other report of Glenn having the inside track. Sure, Glenn and DA are two different people, although making a hire based on replicating the same formula of success, is a product of status quo. You don’t have to have the same individuals for something to be status quo. It’s more of the system and process, that lends credence to it.

Plus, if other potential candidates get the feeling that Glenn will ultimately be the hire, then why should they even care to interview with us, or take us seriously????
These reports, whether true or not, is doing more harm than good. We could be missing out on other great hires
Do you really think a HC candidate is paying attention to what some no name reporter is saying when he can just call up ML and see what's up?

I think you’ve officially passed Tribune as the most condescending poster on this site. lol

I hope it does end up just being clickbait, would rather not have Glenn as the HC, I don’t think he’s even a good coordinator.

I’m not confused, it’s not that big of a deal to me. As far as journalistic integrity, I have zero faith in any of em. 😊
I'm not entirely sure why people were fans of Glenn while he was here. He coached the DB's and our guys could NEVER get their heads turned around. We'd also always give up big plays. He does seem to be doing better in Detroit, but I don't watch enough of their games to know if he's improved or not.

It starts with one report and then it gets copied to multiple outlets, then so on and so on. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, it’s scuttlebutt that would be addressed. Plus, with ML hiring an in house candidate like DA, it very well could be believable to some people

Again, he can just call Loomis and see what's up, so I don't think it matters what any random reporter says.

This is (or would be, if true) Jerry Jones level of meddling.
If this true I am totally done with Loomis.

Forcing a bad staff on his DCs was part of why Payton sabotaged himself with the worst defenses in the history of the league.

A coach should get to form his own staff.

The guys Loomis wants to protect (if this is true) may not be bad, but it’s the principle..

I believe the story has merit, though it is speculation based on common sense.

Assuming Loomis will remain general manager, he already has an opinion on whether Aaron Glenn would make a good head coach and how he would fit in the Saints organization. If Loomis's opinion is that Glenn would make a successful head coach, then Glenn starts with a major advantage over every other head coach candidate the Saints will interview. This does not mean that the Saints have made a decision and will not seriously interview other candidates--Glenn, after all, could opt for another team. But it means he has a head start, again assuming Loomis has a high opinion of Glenn.

And if the Saints front office believes that Evans and Young are stars on the current coaching staff, it is easy to see the next coach, whether Glenn or someone else, retaining these coaches.

Speculation, yes. But common sense. This is how the world works.

I didn't say that you did say that we can't win with Loomis here and I would like a younger GM too. But many are acting like it's all doom and gloom if Loomis stays and feel the need to state that in every single thread and attack anyone who doesn't preface everything they say with "obviously we are forked as long as Loomis is GM, but . . . ".

Frankly, I don't care if Loomis is an egomaniac, insane, butt crevasse or not. All I care is if he the rebuilds the team and if they win. Payton was a prick but he won. Many great coaches and GMs are.

It's just tiring and makes a place that is supposed to be a fun place to talk about Saints football into a chore that isn't fun at all.

I understand that, similar to the last year or so with DA, I think it's because folks actually still care about their team......

And, I agree....winning cures almost anything, but that is the problem because losing exposes everything.....it's not necessarily fair but that is the way it's always been...

If the Saints offensive line would have been dominant this year, would we be having this conversation at all?
the line play single handedly trashed this season.
If they wouldn’t have been decimated by injury / lack of talent and did the job, DA would probably still be here and our record would probably be 4or so games better and we would have won our division.

We get so far into left field just to argue about semantics.

LMAO at the multiple edits to the thread title. Guys, it’s just one article. Read and take it for what it’s worth. Or not. lol

My thoughts:

1. The coach the Saints would love to hire is Mike Vrabel. Vrabel will be the top choice of several teams. I do not believe he will have any interest in the Saints, and he will sign elsewhere.

2. Like Vrabel, Ben Johnson will be highly sought after. I do not see him interested in the Saints job.

3. Glenn is not the "sure thing" that Allen was three years ago. But I believe he is the favorite and logical choice. Three years ago, the coaching search was largely for show--the job was Allen's unless someone else blew the front office away in presentation. This year, there will be a legitimate coaching search.

4. The Saints will be considered one of the least attractive openings. The reasons are a lack of core young players to build around, the lack of a young quarterback likely to be a quality starter with time, too many aging players, major salary-cap challenges going forward, and the need to dramatically rebuild with an aging general manager who has repeatedly rejected the need to dramatically rebuild. The Saints may not be considered the least attractive job--there are many questions with the Jets. And we still don't know what head coaches will be dismissed next week and thus what teams will be looking for a new head coach.

5. Someone is going to post that in 2006 the Saints were an even less attractive job. Agreed. Of course, Payton wanted the Green Bay job (and Brees wanted to play in Miami). Luck, good and bad, often determines what happens in life.

Why kind of leadership does Glenn have that players will buy into? Glenn might be someone you can improve with but not win when it matters.
