I don't think we need Gruden. There haven't been many teams that have "needed" his "ego" or baggage. I would support him as a coach because that's what you do as a fan, support every member no matter what until they prove otherwise. I am not impressed with Gruden enough to risk a bunch of outside noise and Gruden and Payton are totally different. Payton is master at motivation and being prepared as where Gruden is more show than substance, he can take a contender and possibly go all the way but the foundation and all of it's supporting cast need to be there. Payton can take what he has and improves on them (offense especially) Denver had a nice defense for Payton to inherit and he has a good young QB to mold. Gruden has really only had journeymen QBs to worry about. This team needs Jon Gruden. He is the closest to Sean Payton out there and will demand excellence, knows the x and o’s, and has an ego to him. These other candidates will be first time head coaches and will be yes men to Loomis.
I am sure he would voice his opinions, but I am more personally afraid he would just fall into the "chain of command" type thing the Saints have had and just fall back in line and not fight as hard as someone who hasn't been exposed to the organization. I am sure he has his ideas on scheme and personnel, but I would rather have someone that has never been here. I would support Glenn but again not my first choice just as Gruden wouldn't be, but I don't know anything more than this is just a personal choice as I don't want retreads.I don’t understand what you are saying. How do you know that Glen would be afraid to express his own opinion? You don’t think he has is own thoughts/ideas on scheme and personnel? If he doesn’t, we shouldn’t interview him.
I would rather see an offensive minded coach in the position of head coach. Conversation shouldn't end just because he is a "fine" coach. We don't know how good Glenn is in a head coaching position so we can't say he is a good HC, so you have to be nitpicky to a point. Glenn is unproven as a head coach so if he is the Saints hire hopefully, he is that one you don't pass on.If Glenn is a "fine" coach...that's where the conversation should end. You don't pass on good coaches. There aren't many of them at HC to be nitpicky.

I hear you let's hope it is the former and he can capture lightning in a bottle twice! The one thing that encourages me is that Loomis picked Payton over more accomplished guys like Martz and Mike Sherman, so it seems that he knows what to look for. But it could also be that he just got lucky, but hopefully it's the former.

T-Bob and Hester on 104.5 out of BR were fairly positive on Glenn this morning. Echoed my sentiment from yesterday that of all the defensive names out there, he'd be the lone one worth considering.
Doing a little thinking here....you have to think the Mayo firing in N.E. was to clear the deck for them to hire Vrabel due to his connection there. Johnson's probably not leaving Detroit just yet....everyone else is a retread or a bad fit.....tea leaves are pointing toward Glenn or Brady?
There are some good options because you have a mix of young and older candidates with all levels of qualifications, experience and ideas. It is exciting but at the same time this decision is one of the biggest an organization can or has to make. There are some good options this year. But my concern is that the players really like Rizzi and that may sway things in his favor. I wouldn't hate that, but I wouldn't love it either.
