Let's be honest. Pete is hired to build, not to win right away. And it's not only about the roster.

As important as the head coach is, it is his staff.

Pete will build blocks on the coaching staff and even at the front office on how should things will be done for years to come.

Teams use these interviews as opportunities to learn about these coaches who they normally wouldn't have interaction with. They can reference these for future positions or have insight to what that coach will do in his next role.

Those two interviews, our only two scheduled minority interviews, are the required catalyst for ANYTHING happening, whether they’re serious candidates or not.

I don't see it as a long term venture but something that is more transitional. Carroll can come in and establish a culture along with constructing a solid roster.

First, that $52m we are over this year will mostly be pushed into the future, eating up some/all of the 2026 space. Also, the 2026 cap is for a roster with only 25 players, so we would need to sign another 28 players to fill out the roster (plus all the other cap costs from IR, practice squad, etc.).

Beyond that, it really depends on what we do this year and next. If we don't sign any notable deals this year and next, then that helps us dig out of the hole, but it also means we are relying on rotational veterans and UDFA-type players to come in and make an impact.
