Closer look at Kellen Moore in the NFCCG today (1 Viewer)

Wake me up when the Dumpster Diving is over.

I can see McCarthy's agent saying... "Mike, Dallas did nothing for you to get to Canton, so care-taking or failing in New Orleans would be a career-ender. That team is rungs lower than the Cowboys were when you started there. And now your competition may be that annoying OC that you fired because he effed up three playoff games. Do you want to get beat out by that guy or even have to beat that guy?"

NFL teams, protect your dumpsters. Mickey's on the loose again.

I like Rizzi because the players like Rizzi. Not some of them, but most, if not all of the players like him. They are bought in. You cannot discount the importance of such. I don't care if he is a special teams coach, any veteran coach in the NFL fully understands the X's and O's across the board, Plus, I think he's likely better at player evaluation, as a little birdy told me that Rizzo and Galiano are the two that spotted and brought in Shaheed, for example.

I do not particularly like the current list of candidates that the Saints have shown us. None of the candidates make me say... "Yeah! Let's get that guy!" If I had to pick one, it would probably be McCarthy, and I wouldn't be excited about that pick either.

I would probably go with Rizzi, as this is likely going to be a transition season with significant player turnover anyway, at least you maintain a cohesive locker room and possibly keep valued assistant coaches, as for example, I want to see more of coaches like Kubiak, Galiano, et al. if it doesn't work out you can always let Rizzi go and hire someone else after next season when the Saints will be in a more attractive position cap wise, and there may be better options in the coaching market.

REBELMAX... as always, appreciate the insight!

Loomis has to know Rizzi isn’t an option after the DA disaster. I saw an analysis from 2021 (forgot where) that showed how internal promotions have a high failure rate, with the creator saying he thought Freddie Kitchens would be the last of those mistakes in the NFL.

Hiring Rizzi would be trying that historically failing strategy a second time in a row.
Or... hiring Rizzi could be sacrificing the 2025 season in hopes of drafting high enough that a HC that's a proven winner would be willing to come on board with a team where he could have his pick of rookie QBs. Either way, 2025 is probably a wash. I'm hoping we get a coach and draft some players aimed at 2026 or 2027.

It's not tanking if you're doing the best you can with what you got. So the team could still play hard and win some moral victories along the way.

I'm guessing Moore is their potential first choice since they want to interview him as soon as Monday even if they have to travel to Philadelphia to do it. And McCarthy is the fallback option, with Rizzi as the final resort? That's where I am today.
He is an ascending young coach who has gained more experience with each stop he has been on

Yup

I dont know the reasoning. I’m connecting dots ( with a few bread crumbs ) and they are all leading to Philly and Kellen Moore.
Where did Joe Brady fall in the Saints' rankings before he withdrew?

Dude said "a Saints team that is very much built to win, right now" I'll smoke whatever it is he's smoking and I don't even smoke.
Yeah, he did say that. He also said the Saints could fly to Philly to talk to Moore should Philly win. They must be very interested in him.
