Report: Saints 1 of 9 teams scheduled to formally meet with Boise St. RB Ashton Jeanty at NFL Combine

Because unless we're talking about an HOF-caliber talent at RB in the mold of Adrian Peterson or Barry Sanders (and I don't think Jeanty is worthy of that label), I wouldn't take a RB in the top 10. It's not a good way to build a team. The trenches are more important.
I do agree about building up the trenches.

Do you think that Jeanty's draft position is greatly benefitted this year by the season that Barkley had? Maybe it gives some teams a reason to shift back to old school thought that it is the player and not the position.

I definitely think Barkley, Henry, and Gibbs specifically have put the RB position back en vogue, as has the step back we have seen taken place at the QB position as a league,

The game is evolving, again. College style offenses are taking center stage, zone read concepts and such, and having a dominant running game.

I think he’ll be a good RB. But if we pass on taking Tet or one of these edge guys to draft Jeanty at #9, I’ll be depressed for a month.
I've been hoping Tet falls to us for over a month. But I read a prospect review (and saw two video breakdowns) yesterday highlighting concerns with him getting separation at the next level. Starting to scare me a bit.

With the news that Carter has a stress fracture in his foot he may slide. My stance is still the same. If Carter , T-Mac or Graham are gone @9 I'd do everything I could to trade down to 13 and take Warren. He gives us what I think is our biggest need on O, a big body contested catch pass catcher, either @ the X WR or TE position.
If that trade down option is not available then try and trade done to around 20 and pick up a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th and draft Grant or the best edge available.

Man for as much as I love Carter, where I’m at mentally is I’d really like to take a break from dealing with players with any sort of injury that could linger. We have played with fire for too long.

Love the player; I just feel like we need to put a premium on player health for a bit. A stretch fracture is no joke, and if a player like him slides out the top 5 due to it, it indicates a potentially serious issue.

As you know, I have some reservations about taking Jeanty at #9. However, given the news yesterday that the team is still in win now mode, Jeanty or Warren would likely make a lot of sense if you are in win now mode. Most of the other options would be about the long term future unless Carter or Graham fell to #9, but it seems likely they won't and the Saints are going to sign some guys to play DT/NT and/or Edge/DE and will likely go get someone on the OL. In that scenario, Jeanty would make a lot of sense as a guy that can step in day one to try to compete.

I think for the long term, it would be better to build the rest of the team and then add a great young RB, but if win now is the plan, Jeanty makes sense. And maybe he ends up being part of the long term vision, but I do have some concerns about the pounding he took with all those carries he had this year.

I think he will run fine which will allow separation. Hopefully he's either running drills at the combine or does some pro-day stuff so we can see an objective measure of his speed and quickness soon.

But, underhill mentioned the other day that teams want to meet with him to figure out if or how much he really loves the game. Which is a bit of a concern for a high first round pick.

Is there any data showing anything to warrant concern over college usage impacting a career?

I’ve never really heard of this ever being a concern from any of the so-called experts and former scout types, and surely Jeanty isn’t the first superstar collegiate back to see heavy usage throughout his career.

Yeah I have been seeing more and more chatter that Tet may not be the can’t miss prospect he’s been made out to be over the course of the year. Seen him being mocked as low as 19.
