Chase Young re-signed to a 3-year, $51 million deal (17 Viewers)

We still really need to improve the pass rush for this team. I'm ok with Young/Granderson holding down one side but we can't trot out Cam again on the other side. Cam is one of my all time favorite Saints but he just isn't producing any more. I can see us swinging big in the first round on a pass rusher.

I don't disagree, but free agency hasn't even officially started yet so there is still plenty of time to improve. But, the truth is that if this team is going to get better, most of it is going to have to come from better coaching and good draft picks. We don't have the money to build a new roster in one off season.

I think signing Young is more about not getting worse on the DL and not being forced to draft an Edge high in the draft. We have now set the floor at Edge reasonably high. But maybe the right Edge falls to them in the draft and they can improve the position.
ya your definitely right that we don’t have the money. i was just hoping for a couple pieces. free agency starts tomorrow but most have realistically already signed. This draft does not seem very strong as we have pick 9 and i don’t think anyone is sure who’s worthy to be drafted there lol.

Do you think Young and Granderson took turns playing the same side and not both playing opposite edges? You got me confused.

Granderson played strong side and Chase was our weak side end. Cam got some snaps but in the nickel 99% of the time we had Granderson and Chase both on the edge on opposite sides.

Maybe a new scheme will unleash the raw talent of Young? Hope so, didn't think he played that great his 1st year here but he does get more pressures than I thought....we will see what happens....

That's a lot of money for 5 sacks.

Sometimes you don't need to go super deep looking at pressures, etc. Sometimes, a guy is on his third team and is 25 and puts up very average production and it should be kinda obvious, he's not worth this money.
Crosby 35.5m a year, 7.5 sacks last year. 4.73m per sack

Garrett 40m per year, 14 sacks. 2.85m per sack

Mack 18m a year. 6 sacks. 3m per sack

Sweat 19m a year. 6 sacks. 3.16m per sack.

Reddick 14m a year. 5.5 sacks. 2.54m per sack.

Golston 6.5m a year. 1 sack. 6.5m per sack.

Baron Browning 7.5m per year. 2 sacks. 3.75m per sack.

Odeyingbo 16m per year. 3 sacks. 5.3m per sack.

Young 17m per year. 5 sacks. 3.4m per sack.

His contract is spot on market value. This is the current value of edge rushes in the NFL.

Hopefully we can add a veteran Guard and maybe find a WR or TE. I think they will be reasonably active with mid-level free agents that tend to still be on the board after the first few days of free agency. And, honestly, those are the guys I would rather sign. Either young hidden gems on cheapish deals or experienced vets on cheapish one year deals.

Does Chase playing OLB in a 3-4 give him a better chance at getting to the QB?

My favorite play of his from last year was when he ran onto the field late and ran straight into the play.
Hey Played standing up alot last year though it was still a 4-3 or nickel he just didnt have is hand in the ground. Having a 3-4 doesn't much change his ability to pass rush as most pass situations are from a nickel or dime where there is only 4 down lineman anyway regardless of base defense. But because of Young athletic ability I can see him being decent as I believe hes quick enough to cover flat, play contain and rush. I'm not saying he be Von Miller but if the d -coord is determined to switch to 3-4 taking a look at Young especially early in the transition is not bad idea IMO

Cam said the d line coaching was garbage and so we have to hope that had an effect and that it can only improve. Hopefully.

Mekhi Becton OG
Jevon Holland S
Azeez Ojulari OLB, injury prone LB but he puts up stats when he plays. Should be a low cost deal.

The draft is loaded with TE if we don't resign J. Johnson.

Holland agreed to a deal with the Giants.

I like Becton, but a Guard from the Vikings just signed with the Colts for $18 million AAV. Not sure what price Becton will be, but I'd say no at $18 million AAV.

I would like to add some young vet LBs with potential.

As far as TE, I do like the guys in the draft, but even Loomis said we need two TEs and I don't want to be forced to take two TEs in the draft so I'd rather had a veteran so we can play the board and only take two TEs if it makes sense.

Chase Young isn’t re-signing to $18 million per year to rotate with Granderson on one side nor rotate in general. This deal entrenches him in as the starting LOLB. He’s the top defender in the front seven, as far as salary at minimum.

Cam became the rotational 3rd pass rusher by the 2nd half of the 2024 season. We do need to upgrade the 3rd pass rusher spot. Hopefully that’s where Foskey steps up in a new rush friendly scheme and return dividends on his 2nd round draft selection in his 3rd season. But we should be able to add another pass rusher in the 2nd or 3rd round.

If we want to plug that gaping hole in our OL, we are going to have to pay!
He is about as sure of a fix as you can possible get for the 2025 season.
We can't win games with our QB getting steamed rolled up the middle like last year.

The UFA TE market doesn't excite me.
Holker didn't show much in 2024...
So, I do understand Loomis's & your point of needing a TE or two.

Stinks about Holland, I think he would have been a good fit for us... but there are some pretty good S coming out of the draft this year.

You mean ROLB

If he played like jane what does that say about the rest of the D Line. Who they play like? even though he play like Jane AND taking 1 play off every 3 plays, he still played more consistent then all our D Line. So he either really good or every one else is really bad.
Extremely poor d-line coaching.

Yes, coaching matters.
