Chase Young re-signed to a 3-year, $51 million deal (67 Viewers)

Giving a big contract to a player with effort issues is a roll of the dice. Hope it works out. They are probably thinking that FA options that are affordable are limited and we need to use draft capital on a CB.

Everybody's talking about Sanders, Jeanty, Graham and more. I would not be surprised to see #9 go to a corner. We lost both of our starters from last year. That position is thin now.
If Will Johnson falls to 9, grab him quickly. I have a feeling he will be top tier CB

He will never improve if he gives up after losing a rep. When that happens, he rather watch others hustle to make the play, without trying himself. Thats a level of selfishness that Washington and SF found out. SF mostly by the half *** effort he gave them in the 2nd half of the SB. That D line was stacked and he was the weak link and then they let the dude walk bc they didn’t want his nonsense anymore. Some people see it and others still think they can fix someone
He has one rush move....run up to the tackle then usually continues on past the quarterback. Hope better coaching can fix it but it is a dubious signing imo. In my novice observation, I was not impressed with CY last season.

Chauncey Golston had the same production (in 13 starts) as Chase, yet he signed a 3 year $19.5 million contract🤣

by “production,” do mean sacks?

Young had almost twice as many pressures as Gholston
Did those “pressures” lead to anything?
Seriously asking

Plus Golston isn’t the “Kim Kardashian” type player in this equation. You know, the person that too many fawn over, but is mid AF. Golston is the girl next door, that will save you some money and not need to quickly run to the bathroom, to put make up on, as soon as she wakes up.
Y’all keep saying pressures, yet they didn’t amount to anything. Unless, yall like the “almost” type player. Nah, I want the rabid dawg who hunts and doesn’t stop hunting, until it’s got its kill. Guess I just have a different type mentality

Yes it’s very possible those pressures led to bad passes or sacks from Bresee on stunts. I’d rather a player give me 10 pressures and a sack than 2 pressures of 2 sacks.

Sacks are over rated. TJ Watt had 11.5 sacks on 1,002 snaps this season, meaning that’s 1% of his plays, were the other 99% of his snaps useless?

Pressures cause QBs to get out of rhythm and throw bad passes, interceptions, and sacks for other players. And with more guys playing in match up and pattern matching zone, we should see more interceptions from bad passes this year. Also, as already mentioned by several people, QBs almost always had space to step up in the pocket or run up the middle against our D last year. The addition of a NT and the gap and a half scheme on the DL should close those lanes for the QB and lead to more sacks.

And, frankly, if he can get to 7 to 8 sacks he will easily be worth his contract and that more or less just requires him to play like he did last year but get more sacks because QBs can't step up. And if he hits double digits, he will be cheap for an Edge rusher. Double digit guys are getting $25 to $40 million.

He probably never reaches his ceiling or maximizes his talent, but he doesn't need to to be worth this contract.

I get that you like guys that work harder and do more with less talent, but this is a guy who even at 3/4 of his talent is a good pass rusher and the best pass rusher on this team. It's not like there are many options out there that can produce at his level and, as our many failed draft picks at Edge have shown, it's a tough position to hit on in the draft for this team. And any Edge they could take at #9 would likely be a reach.

And this is the kicker for me.

There are actual people in the fan base and in the media that want the Saints to tank the off-season. The Saints have already declared they don’t intend to. So these types of articles and posts are going to pop up each and every time we make any move.

It’s annoying how bitter people all over the Internet become just because a football team isn’t following THEIR plan. And sometimes you get the feeling that they’re now rooting against the team so that they can say, “See, I was right!”
It has nothing to do with the Saints not following "their plan". It's the fact that the Saints plan has continued to be ineffective yet we keep doing it.

How many more seasons of going nowhere so we need to have before we flip our strategy? If we started after the Brees era we would potentially be over and done with tanking already.

If we had even one iDL who could collapse the pocket those pressures would result in many more sacks.

Unfortunately our iDL including Bresee get dominated inside and allows the QB to just step up in the pocket.

It's simple. iDL pressure -> Edge sacks.
