Pat Kirwan said he heard Carr didn’t want to do Saints contract restructure (176 Viewers)

Carr could have prevented all of this by being better than an average QB (on his best day) for 11 years. If he was good, the Raiders would have never let him go. When they did, there would have been teams beating his door down to get him signed and locked up long term.

In addition, all of this "Moore wants him" stuff means nothing right now. I'm happy with the hire, but really, no one knows what he is going to do as an actual head coach. I don't think hitching his wagon to career losers like Carr is the best idea.

There, that should bring that stinky guy out...

The point of sitting out is to force a trade. It's greatly in the Saints interest to get something for him at that point.

You call him a Pro on one side and a guy who gets blind side trapped by a restructure on the other.

These people are business men with agents. Be more realistic.

I'll admit your right if he sits out. Otherwise this is more offseason teen drama among delusional fans.

I did not say he was blindsided by the restructure and all players are "trapped" by their contracts. That's part of being a Pro.

If he sat out to force a trade which would make no sense because the Saints would toll his contract and he would lose money, the Saints have no motivation to trade him. When they converted his salary to bonus it became guaranteed money that they are going to have to pay sooner or later. So, if they trade him they are going to have to pay him $30 million to play for someone else this year. That's a high price to pay for a 4th or 5th round pick which they would only get because his cap hit to another team would essentially be the vet minimum since we are already paying him his salary in the form of a bonus.

But, if you want to be blind to the facts, that's cool. But, stop pretending that it's delusional to believe 5 credible sources saying that Carr does not want to be here. If nothing else Carr wants to be a free agent or traded so he can get a new 3 to 4 year contract that the Saints aren't willing to give him right now.

He's going to be the starting QB this year barring him doing something crazy like sitting out. But I seriously doubt he would do that for the reasons stated already.

This...
My guess (since these are all guesses) is that - This didn't add any new money or future security to his deal - It was existing money in his deal - And more than likely leads to this being his last year here in NOLA - By making it more palatable cap-wise to cut him next season.... Not exactly what you want to hear if you're a mid-level starting NFL QB.
...and this...
Treat it how you want, but this is now the fourth or fifth person to report this or something similar. Florio, Breer, Underhill/Triplett, and Kirwin all have reported similar things. Apparently Carr preferred to be cut or traded and was willing to waive his no trade clause. The Saints asked him to take a pay cut but he refused and indicated that he would rather go. But, Moore wants him to start at least this year so the Saints did the standard restructure which they can do without his consent. I can't swear that the details are correct but 4 to 5 sources have now reported something similar so it seems pretty clear that Carr doesn't really want to be here and he's here because Moore wanted him as his starter this year. I'm sure Carr will still play his best, but it appears that he would rather be playing some place else.
...and this...
Dude has definitely earned his standing in this city. Fans aren't just gving him a hard time just to give it to him...he worked hard on it.
Well said guys!

No it doesn’t add time. His contract was designed from the start for a restructure in years 2 and 3 if the Saints decided to. It had 4 years with salary and 3 void years from day 1.
I realized I’d made a mistake with that comment - but I wanted to add again, the contract as it was originally written put Carr at an advantage because the team was NEVER going to pay out that contact as written.

So Carr, under the original contract, could stand firm, get paid and then get cut and become a free agent again and pick where he wants to go.

Now his financials are more palatable and they likely won’t be cutting him prior to this season.

So the restructure doesn’t add time as written but it does extend his time here - and again, I can’t imagine he’s thrilled about coming back to a team that’s fan base and city overall do not want him here.

I have zero against the guy but I too want him to move on with his life and career.
I think he'd like to do that as well. As Mike Triplett said on a NOF podcast with Nick, it's an unfortunate situation. Both parties would like to move on, but are limited by circumstances. This is another example of how the Saints are limited due to their cap situation.

Definitely think he would rather be released, get his money, and a shot at landing on a team needing a qb that would sign him to a multi year deal with fans that don't bash him. Also think this could lead to a qb pick in the draft because if not we'll be one of those teams signing Derek 2.0 for $40 mil per year.

None of them are reporting from actual sources. They are all just repeating what each other says. It's the very definition of an echo chamber.

It's all high school gossip stuff. I know you won't agree, so no worries in advance.

Other players have wanted out and demanded a trade. They have threatened to sit out to do so. Some reason Carr is trapped though? If it made no sense then it wouldn't be done. I'll let you consider why it's in the teams best interest to move on and why they usually meet the players demands. They even had to start penalizing players because it was too powerful a move.

If he doesn't want to be here, he can force their hand. The logical reasoning is that he was exploring a trade (Loomis probably too at one point). Moore decided he wanted to keep Carr. They talked and decided to go another year then restructured.

You get the same headlines from reporters wanting to make their noise but the reality isnt as exciting and actually makes sense. All they have to say is "technically at one point he was looking other places", same cya stuff as usual.

Please don’t believe everything you hear. I would file this under “fake news” because it can never be confirmed. Anyway why in the world would someone be against getting their $30 million salary guaranteed for another year?

Kirwan has plenty of connections, and I doubt he would make that story up. His radio show isn’t built on outrageous takes and claims. Add Kirwan’s comments to the other reports, and Carr being MIA the best I can tell, and it seems like there is some smoke there.
Kirwan is competing for viewers just like everyone else. If he doesn't repeat what everyone else is saying, then he looks like he's out of the loop and starts losing viewers. If he doesn't engage in negative and sensationalized "give the people what they want to hear" stories, then he starts losing viewers.

The hyper-monetization of reporting in combination with both an oversaturation of "reporters" and an insatiable demand for up to the nanosecond news on a 24 hour basis has killed actual reporting.
