Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal

We needed some insurance for both Olave and Shaheed. I don’t think you can count on either playing a full season without some sort of injury. Also doesn’t hurt to bring in someone with the work ethic of Cooks. Hopefully he pushes the young guys to be at their best.
Mike Detilier on Jim Finks regarding often injured players. "STAY AWAY from them, they never get better"

NFL.com has means as 6'1" and 212 lbs. But either way he's still fairly big. I liked what I saw from Means last year, but I wish we could have seen more of him so he had more on field time to develop.

The Combine Results website had him at 73 inches and 227lbs, but NFL.com and Sports Reference have him at the 73" and 212lbs. I guess he's not as big as I thought, but he's stilled rocked out.

No different than Keyshawn Johnson saying "Just Give Me the Damn Ball."
When you care more about individual statistics than winning or losing, and are willing to say it publicly and not just behind closed doors. That’s not someone you want in your locker room and Payton recognized that and moved him.

He was a young player in the 2nd year of his career. I’m not saying people can’t change, but if someone says they can’t understand why some saints fans might have a bad taste in their mouths in regards to a Cooks, I’ll respond with well he kind of did that to himself.

I like the signing. I know that I've been in the trade Olave camp, but the best scenario is that he puts in the muscle and get stronger like he said he would and then avoid the concussions. These 3 dudes if healthy can break havoc and the provide insurance for each other.

Sure looks like if we draft wr it will be of the bigger variety

Anyone know if there is any history behind the archery celebration? Isn’t it a penalty now?
Pretty sure he said in an interview (when he was still here iirc and the rule change started) that his celebration was a biblical reference and that the penalty only occurs if he actually shoots the arrow (3 pump rule from K&P) so now he just takes it out and then flexes or something I think - don’t remember how he tweaked it tho, been a while since the last time I payed attention to him.

Not a terrible signing, though I think this helps make the case for an elite possession receiver in the 1st round (Tyler Warren/Tet McMillan) as they’d be heavily utilized.

Yes, but any CFA signed between now and May would cancel that one out since we have no other lower value picks to cancel. A $3.2m APY is projected be the cutoff.

Yep. If the 4th is important to us, we need to either sign cheap guys, or stick to released players and trades for the next 2 1/2 months.

Any expensive natural free agent we sign between now and then, we are essentially trading a 4th round pick for.
