Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal (93 Viewers)

7th round comp pick cancelled out…

Think we still have a 4th for Adebo (for now).

Yes, but any CFA signed between now and May would cancel that one out since we have no other lower value picks to cancel. A $3.2m APY is projected be the cutoff.

Sure looks like if we draft wr it will be of the bigger variety

Anyone know if there is any history behind the archery celebration? Isn’t it a penalty now?
Pretty sure he said in an interview (when he was still here iirc and the rule change started) that his celebration was a biblical reference and that the penalty only occurs if he actually shoots the arrow (3 pump rule from K&P) so now he just takes it out and then flexes or something I think - don’t remember how he tweaked it tho, been a while since the last time I payed attention to him.

Not a terrible signing, though I think this helps make the case for an elite possession receiver in the 1st round (Tyler Warren/Tet McMillan) as they’d be heavily utilized.

Yep. If the 4th is important to us, we need to either sign cheap guys, or stick to released players and trades for the next 2 1/2 months.

Any expensive natural free agent we sign between now and then, we are essentially trading a 4th round pick for.

Would have rather just kept MVS at this point, he already has chemistry with Carr.

But we didn’t re-sign him, for one reason or another, so we had to make a move. How could this be viewed as a bad move based on someone else signing elsewhere days ago?

Insurance policy for Olave - We all know he's one hit away from retirement... At least they have a plan. Cooks is older, but he can at least fill his role if needed.

Yeah. Having different role playing WRs may not be as important to Moore as it seems to be among us.

They very well may have just gone down their list of the best route running receivers and Cooks was the next man up.

The idea that you need a fast guy, a big possession guy, etc., is ideal in theory but may not be all that important in the grand scheme of things. Having three fast guys has its own set of perks…kind of like the ol’ Greatest Show on Turf back in the day.
Well Kamara is the closest thing in todays NFL to Marshall Faulk, so let’s see if Moore can get it done.

Would not have expected him to fetch more than a 1 year small deal with incentives. At 32, not sure he brings much at that cost.

MVS had chemistry with Carr on deep routes. He wasn’t catching slants or crossers often, or catching before or near the sticks that much. Pass offense has to function with WRs who are effective at a full route tree. We can’t do shot throws on most passing downs which is what MVS was mostly effective at.

Cooks is a much better complete WR than MVS. He has the career #s to more than back that up. Even in Cooks’ down year last season, he was a better intermediate route receiver than MVS in inter targets and FDs.
