Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal (64 Viewers)

I’m not at all a fan of his style, having said that they ALL play to their respective crowds lol. Nature of the business. Ross (who’s my favorite) caters to the pumpers, so on so forth.

Also, the whole world is running on anger and hatred right now, not just sports. Glad I’m old. lol
Every major pandemic in human history has been followed by an increase in unrest, anger and hatred. Pandemics cause a lot of traumatic stress. It takes people, and therefore society, a while to recover from traumatic stress. Unfortunately, some never do recover.

Right???

I like Ricky but anyone who doesn’t think that’s the worst trade in our history is full on delusional imo. All good tho. Life would be boring if we all agreed, all the time.
ricky is/was a top 25 back all time for me. broke my heart when traded even though it was a great trade for both teams. trade wasn’t great because of the future picks but i would do it again for that years picks. Dirka would have wasted them all anyway

I’d say the Ricky trade was the worst. Disagree on the Loomis assertion too, and that’s ok.

And not gonna bother to try and convince you of anything, you’re the most closed-minded poster on this site imo. And that’s all good, fan how ya wanna. I’m cool with you having different opinions than me about our favorite team.

A quick and easy look up for Finks tho, and I remember him fondly as a young Saints fan, seems his peers thought a lot of him too:

Jim Finks, a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, is renowned for transforming the New Orleans Saints into a winning team, including their first winning season in franchise history and multiple playoff appearances.

Here's a more detailed look at his accomplishments with the Saints:
  • Turned around a struggling franchise:
Finks, as the Saints' president and general manager, took over a team that had been a perennial loser and transformed it into a contender.

  • First winning season:
In just his second season at the helm, the Saints achieved their first winning season in their 19-year history, winning 12 games.

  • Multiple playoff appearances:
Under Finks, the Saints advanced to the playoffs four times from 1987 to 1992.

  • NFC Western Division title:
In 1991, the Saints won the NFC Western Division title, a significant achievement for the franchise.

  • Recognized as an NFL Executive of the Year:
Finks was named NFL Executive of the Year for the second time during his tenure with the Saints.

  • Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame:
Finks's contributions to the Saints, and his overall impact on the NFL, earned him a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.

  • Other Hall of Fame recognitions:
He was also inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame.
At least we got a player of value in Rickey, AND we got 2 1st and a 4th swap back for him when we traded him to Mia. We got nothing out of Walsh
I'm open mined when a a decent counterpoint is offered.

Yes we were technically a winning team
Multiple playoff appearances, but never won a playoff game
Yes 1 NFCW division title, in 5 yrs

You remember him fondly but yet Loomis catches Dante's 7 layers of hell and has 10 times the accomplishments as Finks

SMH also the same guy that drafted Shawn Knight @ #11.
That's the first draft that the NFL started cracking down on steroids. A lot of teams blew their first round picks that year. There was a high number of players that shrunk after getting drafted in that first round.

Seems unlikely. Whatever his salary is, that will be his dead cap also. I don't think he would sign without full guarantees because then he's not being paid $X as reported, he's being paid less than $X.

$7M dead cap is not nothing, but it's actually normal.
I agree it's unlikely, but I find it odd that no guaranteed amount was announced with the signing.

Not a fan of this signing. We need our roster to get filled with younger guys will upside. He’s old. Has very little upside.

I don't know if this came up here earlier, but Sigler wrote that if the Saints sign another qualifying free agent, they could lose a gained 2026 4th rounder - the projected comp pick for Adebo.

This is the 1st decision since CKM has been here that I don't like....

I feel trading up for Cooks was one of the worst draft decisions CSP ever made and it probably initiated the search for help in the draft room (ie: Jeff Ireland)......

For a smaller WR he really isn't that dynamic and should have the skill/quickness to to better with YAC.....

That said you can't say he hasn't had some productive years but he will soon be 32 and his last truly productive season was in 2021, he is clearly in decline, to me this fits the Saints mistakes of the past.....targeting a player well past his prime.....I hope I'm wrong and he has some kind of magical resurgence but it just smacks a weird signing to me.....we already have 2 smallish burners at WR......
I can’t say that he was my choice as the draft pick that year. With that said, he had some memorable catches, helped us win some games, etc. and the draft pick we got for him from the trade got us Ramcheck. We could have been way worse off than being a part of his journey.

Now, where does he fit in with this offense? I think security for the speed threat based to Olave and Shaheed’s injury history.

The Saints could win the SB and Sigler will find the one or two things he couldn’t stand about them making and winning the SB and write some BS article.

We needed a veteran WR who has had some success on the roster. Cooks fills that role and he have experience with CKM which CKM needs on the team.
