I think Moore may favor the spread the D out to run philosophy. I think it's why he like the Fangio scheme because it makes it more difficult to do that because of the Safety crashing the box late.

I do agree we need to build the OL, but I honestly like the idea of spreading teams out and then running the ball.

I was going to say that. Don’t be surprised if we see KM substituting these WRs to keep them injury free. Not all of them will be on the field at the same time for the majority of the plays. I’m also sure that he will get us another WR or two. Good bye Cedrick Wilson

Thinking positively, Cooks has a much larger route tree than Shaheed and even though he is short, he still knows how to work the middle of the field.

This allows Shaheed to be used more creatively, including no-back personnel with him lining up at RB and in the slot to run the motion reverse look, etc.

Of course, now 2 of our top 3 WRs are guys with concussion issues. So I still hope we grab at least one big X guy early in the draft.

I am happy they are spending a higher level of money on WR depth than they have been. The open spots in that room just shrunk and that room's been a mess for so long.

We're used to Sean Payton and Drew Brees throwing to all their receivers. But most offenses utilize 3 receivers and 2 depth guys.

They're gonna get an x receiver, hopefully in a few weeks in the draft, with a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. Or a high pick next year.

And if that fails, then a key reason to clean the cap up fully by 2027 is because we may need to sign a top x in free agency.

This is the 1st decision since CKM has been here that I don't like....

I feel trading up for Cooks was one of the worst draft decisions CSP ever made and it probably initiated the search for help in the draft room (ie: Jeff Ireland)......

For a smaller WR he really isn't that dynamic and should have the skill/quickness to to better with YAC.....

That said you can't say he hasn't had some productive years but he will soon be 32 and his last truly productive season was in 2021, he is clearly in decline, to me this fits the Saints mistakes of the past.....targeting a player well past his prime.....I hope I'm wrong and he has some kind of magical resurgence but it just smacks a weird signing to me.....we already have 2 smallish burners at WR......

While I don't think it's a great signing, I'm ok with it. No he has not had a 1000 yd season since 21 but in 23 he had 650 on 54 catches and 8 TDs. if we get that production from him he'll exceed his contract and give us another deep weapon

Oh me too. That's just 3 really small WRs who can't block playing at once.

This will remind me of the old time redskins of the early 80s. Small speedy receivers.

They were complementing a very strong, power run game.

An offense with both speed and power on the field at the same time is hard to deal with. If the defense uses faster players to keep up with the deep speed, they are usually smaller, which becomes a problem if the offense also has a power running game in tandem with the deep speed. If the power running backs also have good speed and start moving all over the alignment, it can get really stressful for the defense.

MVS had chemistry with Carr on deep routes. He wasn’t catching slants or crossers often, or catching before or near the sticks that much. Pass offense has to function with WRs who are effective at a full route tree. We can’t do shot throws on most passing downs which is what MVS was mostly effective at.

Cooks is a much better complete WR than MVS. He has the career #s to more than back that up. Even in Cooks’ down year last season, he was a better intermediate route receiver than MVS in inter targets and FDs.

Plus MVS has a history of drops and had some in the last few games

It’s a process to add talent or legit contributors to the roster, especially at depleted skill positions. We’d disappoint ourselves if we look at every move as all-in or SB or bust. They’re trying to get back to having good depth to be a winning team again.

I think going all in would’ve been splurging on a couple top 5-AAV FAs. Cooks simply gives us an established starting WR on an inexpensive short term starter deal. We have 3 good WRs now instead of just 2.

People want the Saints to have more depth. People automatically start asking who does the new guy send packing when a new player is signed. It doesn't compute.

A team doesn't improve their depth by releasing a player in a group every time they sign a new player to that group. They build depth by adding players to that group and keeping the best ones they already have.
