Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal (100 Viewers)

Mike Detilier on Jim Finks regarding often injured players. "STAY AWAY from them, they never get better"
Finks was the man.
When you care more about individual statistics than winning or losing, and are willing to say it publicly and not just behind closed doors. That’s not someone you want in your locker room and Payton recognized that and moved him.

He was a young player in the 2nd year of his career. I’m not saying people can’t change, but if someone says they can’t understand why some saints fans might have a bad taste in their mouths in regards to a Cooks, I’ll respond with well he kind of did that to himself.
💯 this.

Not a huge fan of the move in a vacuum but one thing Cooks has been is dependable. He is 3 years removed from his last 1000+ yard season and at this point he is more of a #3 type guy. He does bring a good veteran presence to the locker room and I've said plenty of times that Olave is Brandin Cooks lite. Hopefully he can help Olave learn to take better care of himself. Cooks is definitely a catch and drop type guy and Olave needs to learn to do more of that.

Hmmm. I don't recall but give me an example. Only thing about him was tweeting about being fed because he is hungry about something.
It was widely known at the time.
As I said I’m all for the signing at that price, that room is weak.

Just a snippet from a brief search:
According to multiple sources informed of the situation in New Orleans, Cooks was dealt because of a combination of his unhappiness with his role, his doubts that aging quarterback Drew Brees could get him the ball deep, the Saints' frustrations with Cooks focusing on his numbers and their disbelief he should be paid

And here’s latest with Dallas:

Brandin Cooks, a veteran wide receiver, has signed with the New Orleans Saints after expressing frustration with his limited role with the Dallas Cowboys, and he was a first-round pick of the Saints in 2014.

Better feed the man haha.

I see every receivers have that same frustration when they don't get the ball

On his 6th team in his career. He's definitely a journeyman.

Yeah but a journeyman that has been involved in the use of three 1st round picks and has almost 10,000 yards receiving. That's a pretty good career.

He's not a guy you want as your #1 or even starting at this point, but he provides good depth at a relatively decent price. He's certainly an upgrade over Cedrick Wilson if nothing else and he provides depth behind Olave and Shaheed instead of having to put street free agents available in mid-season into the starting lineup like last year.

Not arguing that at all. 😊 Not all become loud about it after a win. He put his stats above the team, is what it is. I’m a fan of the signing given the weakness of the room. I have zero against the guy.

This all day every day and twice on Sunday.

that wr core looking shaky when you see aj brown and devonta smith on the championship team...this is not the same cooks
I don’t disagree but that kind of points to why they even signed Cooks to begin with. Look at the room without him lol. Even more bleak, with your top two guys having been injury prone.

I think (and surely could be wrong as I often am) that it’s a great signing at that price.

The Saints should still pickup a wide receiver in the draft. Olave and Shaheed are good but not great receivers. Olave still has potential

Yeah kind of stupid of him to bring that up after a win. But I have seen worse.

Cooks hasn't been good for 3 years and will be turning 32. This is a nothingburger move.

Going from MVS to Cooks is a more expensive downgrade.
Yeah it’s just a depth signing. Its always good to add quality depth. We’re missing capable depth behind starters at a lot of positions and WR was one of them.

He’s not 1,000 yard Cooks anymore but he’s a really solid WR3 (with the usage) who can be WR2 when we have inevitable WR injuries. WR depth was lacking and he fills that void for a year or two.
