Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal (92 Viewers)

Puzzled, indeed baffled. Another speed guy and another over 30 guy. I guess I can see his value as insurance for both Olave and Shaheed, but this signing just confuses me.

As far as the trade angle is concerned, if Olave is traded, will Shaheed and Cooks start? Weird, just weird.

Cooks hasn't been good for 3 years and will be turning 32. This is a nothingburger move.

Going from MVS to Cooks is a more expensive downgrade.
Based on what I just read regarding his unhappiness with his role in Dallas, he still thinks he’s a 1 or a 2.
Yeah it’s just a depth signing. It’s always good to add quality depth. He’s not 1,000 yard Cooks anymore but he’s a solid WR3 who can be WR2 when we have inevitable WR injuries. WR depth was lacking and he fills that void for a year or two.
Yep. And that should all work out for us when Olave and or Shaheed go down with injuries. I’m glad they signed him. He should have plenty of opportunities here to be fed.

Interesting.
Pipe dreaming here but maybe Olave is going to be included in a trade offer for the 1 pick to get Ward? Carr Olave our 9 and next year 1 for their 1? That may not be enough idk.

*Also not implying that Cooks could replace Olave.

Purely speculation I know but it’s fun to do. I’m excited for the draft either way, however it shakes out.

In 2 years... the Saints cap situation will have sorted itself out and the books will be clean. might even have the most available cap room in the NFL (assuming Loomis doesn't do anything stupid).

With that said I love this signing. We get another fast albeit small receiver to go along with Shaheed and Olave... along with AK and Velus Jones coming out of the backfield.

Some people think Kellen Moore will come to NOLA and turn us into a ground-n-pound offense just because he did that in Philly. I disagree. Moore had to be "reeled-in" by Siriani in the beginning of the season because they thought Moore was pasiing too much. With that change in philosophy Philly rode Saquon and their defense to the super bowl.

Newsflash... the Saints don't have Saquon, nor do they have Philly's Oline nor the Eagles defense, so the ground-n-pound isn't an option here. PLUS, Kelle Moore is a QB, and no play-calling QB wants to run the ball at the rate the Eagles did last year.

Moore has full autonomy to call whatever the hale he wants here in NOLA, so I expect us to load up on offensive weapons. Mike McCarthy said this when he took over the playcalling from Moore in Dallas

"Kellen wants to light the scoreboard up," McCarthy said (via the Dallas Morning News), "but I want him to run the damn ball so I can rest my defense. - Link

Yes... Kellen wants to score points, so signing Cook is cool with me. I love this signing especially when its only for 2 years, and his salary will be off the books when we have a ton of cap space to make moves.

Not saying it’s impossible, but history tells us a move like that would be for all picks, no players. If Titans get Carr they’re going to be in the same situation we are as needing a QB for the future. They’d prob rather tank next year for arch or another top QB in ‘26 draft. Carr being you’re QB doesn’t allow you do to that.

If our WRs are healthy we're going to have some speed! Now if we can find a big body somehow we could be working with something. All if forgiven now. He came home.

Bad trade to me

He literally complained publicly that he wasn’t getting the ball enough after a game that we WON…..
Again with this....he didnt' complain about getting the ball enough - he said something after a game where he didn't get A SINGLE TARGET....not one in a game where we put up 600 yards or some nonsense. Dude was still on his rookie contract, he had to say something or it would've became a habit to shut him out of the gameplan and then they would've been able to come back come contract time and say well...............

The other thing, which is an alleged BTW...that he said about Drew's arm not being strong enough - well...............

Yeah, i wish i was as excited as some of the posts on here, but i dont know about this one. So that gives us Olave, Shaheed, Pettis & now Cooks. I mean, why not Elijah Moore then if we’re literally quadrupling up on this type of WR?

Olave would probably feel like he’s in some sort of personalized hell if he ended up traded and still on the same team as Carr….as they say in 2025, “that’s some nasty work”
