2024 Tropical Weather Thread (2 Viewers)

OMG. I've spent some time in Cedar Key (I think we stayed in those cottages at the beginning of the video) and that is heartbreaking.

I went to high school in Sarasota , near Siesta Key, and the pics ive seen from there are pretty horrific.. a lot like the houses underwater we’ve seen in Louisiana & MS over the years, but i cant remember seeing anything that bad on Siesta in my memory, which goes back over 35 yrs .

Looks like this storm will be very expensive! I also read that there are almost 20 deaths associated with the storm. Crazy how fast everything ramped up.

That could just be gusts, not sustained winds.
Nah it wasn't gusts, they were directly implying the storm was much stronger than being reported. Pretty veteran group of storm chasers as well. They were the only ones claiming that, they were apparently in the storm as well.

It was forecasted to rapidly intensify and the track became pretty steady a few days out with just slight west-east wobbles. The first track (Potential Tropical Cyclone Helene Advisory 1) had forecasted landfall only 5 miles west from the actual landfall.

Damn. I've been on Lake Lure and there are lots of expensive houses around it but I'm not sure if the damn break would bring water higher in Lake Lure or take water out of it? My brother has a "cabin" on top of Black Mountain which is about 15 or 20 minutes from there but I would think he would be safe on top of a mountain.

As a bit of trivia, there is an old resort on Lake Lure that is the location where they filmed parts of Dirty Dancing.

Watched an indie storm chaser on twitch last night who was in Florida. Heard several times over her communication coms "Can't believe they kept the winds at 140, seeing 150-155mph data." Can anyone confirm this?
Whoever that was is an idiot. Winds at landfall were closer to cat 1 than cat 4. This was a surge hurricane.
