The New Orleans Saints have done everything we could ask for in 2018: clinch the top seed in the playoffs, field another great offense and resurgent defense, and get quarterback Drew Brees some more records. With a few weeks to go until their next meaningful game and the holiday season in full swing, here’s a brief wish list for the Saints’ biggest future roster needs, each paired with a possible free agent target or 2019 NFL Draft prospect.

Tight end
The only tight end under contract for the 2019 season is Dan Arnold, who has often been a healthy scratch late in the season. The Saints can probably re-sign starters Ben Watson and Josh Hill easily, but a youth movement is needed at the position. Preferably an athletic, pass-catching specialist to help stretch the field.

Free agent to know: Jesse James, Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have their lead tight end locked up in Vance McDonald, and James has played well in his shadow. He could use an open competition to start in New Orleans, and the Saints should know how to make the most of the 6-foot-7, 261-pounder’s abilities.

Draft prospect to watch: Noah Fant, Iowa Hawkeyes. Fant is the definition of an athlete at the tight end position – seriously, check a dictionary. He’s set school records in spring testing while putting up prolific receiving stats, with 18 touchdowns in his last 24 games. Iowa is a factory for tight ends and offensive linemen, and it shows in his well-coached blocking technique. Fant is a perfect fit for New Orleans. ...
