I was kind of getting the vibe he was overcompensating a little so he didn't sound like a homer. But if you noticed, he was very excited several times when plays went our way - like a reaction from a Saints fan excited.

I am glad you posted this. I watched a replay of the game last night and started to open this same thread. Is it just me, or did he kind of sound like a Falcon fan most of the game? I understand the need to impartial, but geez....
It seemed like everybody's rhythm including Vilmas was thrown off after the Landry play. I was surprised nobody said anything about it though. Bad lapse in concentration there. In terms of partiality/impartiality, Vilma did just fine. He was commentating on a game in which the Falcons dominated for the first 3 quarters.
In terms of illuminating key decisions at key moments that directly influenced the game, he was a mixed bag (at best). For example, he completely missed the opportunity to highlight the poor decision to down the ball on 3rd down with 23 seconds left.
I guess you guys didn’t notice that oversized super bowl ring on his finger with the fleur de lis front and center. I thought he called a good game. I know I hate when Aikman calls a Dallas game because he is such a homer so I expect a professional like Vilma to the the right thing and not be a homer.
True, but I wonder if you can acknowledge that without sounding overly happy about it.In fairness, the Falcons were doing good things and the Saints weren’t for most of the matchup.
I never called him a jerk. I have tons of respect for him. Just trying to see what everyone thinks.I know! It's almost like he was like some sort of impartial sports announcer, like that was his job or something. What a jerk.
No, he was being impartial like a professional play*by*play man should be.Is it just me, or did he kind of sound like a Falcon fan most of the game? I understand the need to impartial, but geez....
As a former defensive player, the Falcons defense was doing everything he likely would’ve wanted his defense to be doing for those first 3 quarters. They were stopping the run, getting after and hitting the QB, and had the passing game smothered. The only thing they really weren’t doing was taking the ball away, but they were getting stops.I said the same things. He just kept saying how much he loved what the Falcons defense was doing. I was like what!!!!!
I noticed it this game as well. Definitely a nice little ode to his time here. Also, I noticed last season that he uses the Saints gold color when doing his play by play drawings instead of the standard yellow. I haven't seen anyone mention this, and I'm not sure if it's just for our games.
