A.T. Perry waived (Unclaimed off waivers); Perry signs to the Broncos practice squad (2 Viewers)

His strengths are between the intermediate and deep areas of the field where he is able to use his long speed to get open. He's weak between the short and intermediate parts of the field because he's slow out of his breaks and doesn't generate separation very well.

For a guy his height, he isn't particularly physical and isn't really a YAC guy that can turn something out of nothing ala Deebo, Aiyuk, AJ Brown, etc... Bub Means is closer to Kubiak's prototype.

Perry is a legitimate NFL receiver but his fit in this system isn't ideal since we already have very good deep threats in the starting lineup.

It's the same as the final roster cutdowns. If he clears waivers, he is a free agent and able to sign with any team on their active roster or practice squad. If he is claimed off of waivers, he goes to that team's 53 man roster.
This.

Keep in mind that any player cut that has fewer than four accrued NFL seasons becomes subject to waivers for 24 hours and cannot sign with a team unless they go unclaimed. If the player is claimed within the 24-hour period, he must be placed on that teams active 53-man roster. In most cases, this would begin a domino effect. The team that claimed the player off of waivers would have to cut a player on their 53-man roster to make room for the player they just claimed.

Looks to me like the Saints used some strategy here. By cutting Perry Friday afternoon the Saint put the other 31 teams in a position to make a decision on Perry by Saturday afternoon, one day before gameday. They would have to like him enough to cut a current active player while also not having Perry up to speed on their system in time to play this weekend. In all likelihood Perry will sign to a practice squad as early as next week. If so, he could still be poached by any other team, including the Saints.

The Saints needed help on the offensive line. They were faced with the decision to place a player on IR which requires missing a minimum of 6 weeks or cut a player.

The Saints had only 2 players on the active 53-man roster that had not played a single down so far in 2024. A.T. Perry and Spencer Rattler. Not a hard choice here.

Bottom of the roster moves are not uncommon and generally happed several times a year by most if not all NFL teams.

It usually goes almost unnoticed because the last few players on the bottom of the totem pole are usually fringe players that haven't produced much if at all.

The players in this grouping are on an active 53-man roster, cut, claimed or unclaimed, signed to a practice squad, elevated, signed to an active roster. Repeat Cycle.

When the Saints activate Kendre Miller to the active 53-man roster they will in turn have to cut another player from the active 53-man roster to make room for him, or place someone on IR. This move is certain to come, as early as this Saturday. It will have the hometown fans cackling even louder than the Perry move today.

He musta not been doing something he was supposed to, like missing meetings or rehab or workouts or something.

Another non legend, legend, annointed by fans because he's a late round draft pick WR. They all should end up like Colston, right?
Same can be said about those mid round picks like Nick Toon and the OG Blockzilla. Nothing made me more mad to see Nick Toon all smiles in the locker room or Blockzilla tweeting “SZN”, while they never did anything noteworthy

I somewhat enjoy the irony of Brandon Coleman. The guy was the kind of UDFA WR this board normally clings to with all the emotional investment of a teen nearing the end of their latest gothic romance/horror novel, only to be continually vilified for being a perfectly competent and functioning, albeit unexciting, #4 WR.

His catches, yards, TDs and blocking were all absolutely on pace with the median performance of #4 receivers across the NFL, but this was never good enough. If he wasn't going to turn into the next Colston, then we absolutely had to focus in on his two career fumbles, that happened to come in one game, and complain at what a competent blocker he was.

Sad and hilarious behaviour in equal measure, frankly.

ATPerry produced more than any other WR on the roster other than Olave and Shaheed. Still dont know what you have in Wilson, Means, Tipton, St.Brown. he is still young and developing not a finished product. The guy made plays unlike the #3 - #6 WRs we have now.
