Adam Schefter: I expect the Saints to have some level of interest in Mike Vrabel [mod edit] (36 Viewers)

The next HC is a sacrificial lamb. They will have to navigate an aging roaster, and limited cap flexibly that the Loomis DA experiment left us. No HC is turning Carr and this marginally talented roster into a 10 win team. It's gonna take two seasons more of 5 wins to get it right.
Should have taken our lumps after Payton & Brees left and blew it up then.

This!!

The Saints are in hell. Old, no cap space, no QB. What coach would want to come here?!

Aaron Glenn is not the answer. He is a former Sean Payton person so, no. Personally, I want to see everything Sean Payton gone. Mickey Loomis still clings to this "look beyond the results" mentality and is still trying to emulate the Sean Payton culture. But that's the problem: it was a Sean Payton culture and he is not in New Orleans! He is in Denver winning and the Saints are losing. So, Mickey Loomis has to go.

Mrs. Benson has to realize that a wiping the slate clean has to happen. If not, as much as we like her, she really needs to look at selling the team.

I can get behind Vrabel. He's a team build and a culture guy. He also knows both sides of the ball and his teams have an identity. His team build identity is physicality, tough defense and a running game. We are building towards a running game as the current NFL is shift back in that direction and we'll need a tough defense to deal with the teams in our division.

Throw a 5 year 50 million dollar deal at Ben Johnson and tell him he can do whatever he wants roster wise. Retool the current roster or tear it down and rebuild.

Vrabel is a good coach, who got really shafted in Tennessee. I would be all for this move.
He’s a great lame duck coach that could bridge us to the next time we can be in a position to compete 3-5 years from now. Loomis has built an aging roster with no medical scouting/intervention…there are holes literally everywhere on this roster. We have very few players I’d be sad to see go next year.

To get a sought-after coach, the Saints are going to have to offer a big, multi-year contract. I like Vrabel. He did a good job in Tennessee. And he is a culture builder for those impressed by what Dan Campbell has done.

I do not want Aaron Glenn. I want a clean break. I do not want anyone with any past connections to the Saints organization or Sean Payton.

I would expect at best this team would be fighting tooth and nail just to be a .500 record with either of these coaches.

Vrabel is clearly not an answer. Don't get me wrong he's not a bad coach but he struggled massively to put together a good offense. His teams survived off a monstrous defense. As defensive players contracts expired and left the team wanting pay days, the team began to flounder and it seemed as if he lost the interest in keeping it the best defense in the NFL, which is all they won with really. Perhaps burn out? Regardless, his only success in competing came when he put together a mean, monstrous defense and could never get the offense going at all.

If he could've put together a good offense with his defense, they would've been in the playoffs far more often then not and likely a superbowl appearance in 2021.

And just for clarity, his hiring this year by the Cleveland Browns has not helped what-so-ever. They're still one of the worst teams in the NFL.

I don't know why a defensive coach would want the job. The team is completely devoid of talent on that side of the ball. No pass rush. Can't stop the run. My ten-year-old Great Niece tackles better. Flo at Progressive covers better. Geez.

Aaron Glenn would not excite this fanbase. Is he a culture builder like Dan Campbell and Sean? I think that would be a miss.

Vrabel...meh. We need a young, aggressive offensive minded coach like a Ben Johnson or maybe a Joe Brady but I don't think Brady is ready to step to that level.
Can't wait till Ben Johnson signs with the Bears and we can all move on from this fantasy.

Right, or is she now really wanting to be a great NFL owner? Selling might be her best option.

If they pick the right guy, the team can return to success. The next coach doesn’t have to be doomed . . . If he’s the right guy.
