Ads on mobile making forums almost unreadable (5 Viewers)

I tried that earlier and it’s still happening
I finally got one on my iPhone. I’m going to ask them to shut down mobile ads until they figure this out.

Edit: My latest exchange tonight with the Adops team.
Hi Andrus

Did you see the issue this afternoon? Or did you get any complaints?

Thanks
Yes.

I actually started surfing Saintsreport on my iphone tonight. It took a while but I finally got one of those insidious ads. Yeah! Very intrusive!

Do we have the ability to shut down mobile ads until this is figured out? If so, do it. This is bad for business.

-Andrus

They might not get to it until morning, but my feeling is, if you can't fix it, kill it until it is fixed.

This exact ad popped up as I scrolled past your comment with the picture of the ad lol
Yeah, as I’ve scrolled through the two pages of the thread I’ve gotten that one multiple times (ironically including on Andrus’ post above discussing how advertisers sneak this stuff in), as well as the Ben & Jerry’s ad a couple of times.

I would think the ad company is under pressure to get it right also. Once you start getting the one from Swatch, their other ads will eventually get blocked out completely. I don’t even get Ben and Jerry’s anymore because the one for Swatch acts like a virus.

Anyone else having this issue where an ad takes up the entire mobile background of the forum, making threads unclickable?

It’s unbelievably annoying.
I just noticed that as of yesterday. Annoying me to the point of cussing out loud 🤬🤬🤬

I never saw the Ben & Jerry's one at all -- just Swatch.

FWIW, on an older iPhone (mines a 6) that Swatch ad is major battery drain. Surfing this forum over the past several days, that ad knocks off 2-3% from battery life in the space of about a minute.

...

I did clear cache and history, and one time afterwards saw the Swatch ad again (about 6:55 this morning). However, this time the Swatch ad opened, lasted maybe a three-count, then went away by itself.

Correct. Only, I haven't heard back from them since Friday. Last word was an exchange between the techs where one stated the following:

"I double checked and all the mobile specific slots for JP are disabled, could you please have another look? Apparently users are still seeing the creatives that interfere with the Forums".

I just emailed them asking if they were still working on the issue. EDIT - I received the following response:

This is the thread in question on the EE board:
Thanks Andrus, I posted a thread on the Tech board about this last weekend. It went nowhere! We don't mind ads, it fact I enjoy them, except when it interferes with the reason we came here in the first place.

What kind of ads are people getting? I'm just curious as to what y'all are searching online recently or talking about to people since devices listen to you lol

Yes there is. Just hit the "Subscriptions" link below the header.

Subscribing members are not served ads, and there are several other user friendly perks that come with being a subscribing member which you will find listed in the link. Plus, it really helps the site stay afloat.

I rarely promote it other than when we do a site fundraiser, but it's been about 3 or 4 years since we did one of those. I did one for my daughter when her spouse passed suddenly a couple years ago, which went very well, thanks to the generous membership here. However, we have had a rather large reduction in subscribers over the last few years, and really need to pick up those numbers, but I sure wasn't going to bother people during this Covid mess, and I really don't like bugging people for funding.
I understand you feeling that way, Andrus, and some folks are certainly in a financial bind with everything that's going on. But there's NO other NFL team forum anywhere close to as good as this one anywhere on the internet -- all for a monthly cost that's less than what some people spend on a single fast food trip.

Maybe some folks just don't know the Subscription link is there -- perhaps move it way over to the left just next to the SSF link??

I received the following from the AdOps team this morning...

Hi Andrus,

We've disabled all Networks on your site except Google Adx and OpenX. It will be easier to track the issue.
We will QA the discussion thread and will re-activate Networks one by one later in the week.

Do let me know if you notice anything wrong.
Thanks for your time

I am confident that they will get it figured out. They always do. Really sorry for the inconvenience.

Swatch ad is back. Safari on iPhone 6. Cache is cleared, no effect.

Download Brave and tell me if you see anything.
Not into playing musical browsers. No place I visit online is worth changing browsers.

My son downloaded Brave onto the family laptop and turned it into VirusFest 2019. Probably not Brave’s fault, but I’m still skeptical of that kind of tinkering.
