Video AFR suggests Sean Payton may be throwing shade about Saints Draft process? (2 Viewers)

This is a stupid take.

he was in charge of draft in nola. what he found impressed him and he's playing up his new found team.

There's no shade there and anyone looking for it is dumb as a rock because CSP is too damn egotistical to insult himself.
This a thousand times over. What a non-issue.

Well, the Broncos haven't won more than 7 games in a season since 2016...

So, yes, their analytics department is on another level. A lower one.
Yeah, but they have new ownership now! I assume their analytics go something like this now:

"Sean, we know you love Player X but what if we told you we could get Great Value Player X two rounds later?"

Also, trades down in the draft are now referred to as "Rollbacks".

Didn’t sound too bad imo, would also be curious to me if he was throwing shade as he was the head honcho here.

It seems to me that perhaps he is learning something new, but that’s usually true whenever you go to a new organization. I suspect that if we hired the Denver coach, he would also learn something new about our approach. Although teams usually share and copy other teams’ approaches, I expect that things are continually changing, so it just takes a little time to disseminate to other teams. All teams probably have some metrics that haven’t disseminated to other teams.

Yeah man that's what I was thinking. I mean, what did the Broncos show him that was so mind blowing that he felt like he was in a new car trying to figure out the controls? Did he put on a VR headset and get whisked away to some virtual realm of draft analyzation? Do they have some sort of Tony Stark interactive 3D hologram deal? Do they have a draft Jarvis?

To be fair, I never implied it was an issue. Just found it curious and thought would be fun to talk about, as this is a Saints message board. I think. 😊 I’ll never understand why folks get offended/worked up (not saying you) when a topic is simply broached, to talk about. To me that’s the whole purpose of the board.

And yes. I know he’s no longer our coach, but he’s tied to us for this season as our next pick depends on how they do, and he was by far and away our most successful coach, so many folks are still interested to see how he does.

I can believe that other teams have good and sophisticated analytics. If the Saints had relied too much on analytics, there is no way we would have taken a chance on a washed-up, injury prone loser like Drew Brees in 2006.

Better analytics doesn't always equate to better decisions. It's just a tool.

I caught this live on AFR yesterday. Moscona went back to 2006 and read off some of the names of Denver’s draft picks through those years. They hit on about the same number of middle-round picks as the Saints did during his time here.

I don’t look for him to set the football world on fire there. Coaches’ careers tend to be better when they’re hungry. I think he’s just money-hungry at this point.

Who knows.

But I do know that the AFC in general is a beast. Mahomes, Josh Allen, Burrow, Hebert, and Trevor L are real problems. He'll need those high-quality "analytics" to compete out there.

Sean Payton words out of his mouth before the draft = smoke screen

My head shaking was directed at the content creator, not you for posting it. It’s a worthy topic for board discussion.

No shade thrown. Just excitement about his new team.

Besides, Payton was HC for 16 years with us. He was directly involved in every aspect of the draft.

I’m sad he left too, and realize I’m probably in the minority in that I want him to succeed. I wish him nothing but the best.
Ditto. I am very sad that he left the team. I don’t think he left the team because he hated New Orleans. I think he left the team because he was burned out and needed a break. We get so caught up in somebody’s profession i.e. coach. That way, forget that these people are human just like you and I. Maybe he was just burned out.
