Anyone ever meet Loomis in person? (29 Viewers)

No but i once saw Arnie Fielkow pumping fuel next to me at a gas station in Lakeview.. that’s a true story .
I went to school with one of Fielkow’s kids. He’s been to my house before. I thought very highly of him, still do. I should send him a postcard…

I briefly met Mickey Loomis in 2011 at an adjoining clubhouse table at the Fair Grounds for a race day. He was super into the races but not obnoxiously so, his competitive side was apparent.

Saw Bobby Hebert buying odds & ends in the Lakeview Walgreens once. I think they underreported his height on the gameday roster, or my own hangover wooziness that morning made him seem gigantic.

No other front office or team media stories. I’ve met several players between 2000-2015 or so. Most of those stories are nondescript, or I was working and had to be professional to them. Once upon a night on the town in the CBD, a defensive back’s entourage tried to steal a bottle from a VIP section I was in. Somehow, said DB recognized me weeks later at a hotel bar. Wasn’t my section, wasn’t my problem. I think I was supposed to pass the word on :shrug:And his height was definitely overreported.

Here is how old i am - i used to see Bobby Hebert at the Delchamps (!) in Mandeville quite a bit.. also he used to practice on his own, just throwing balls to kids, at my high school during his prolonged holdout in the early 1990s.. and ill never forget on my last day of high school we had a half day and I went over to Franco’s Athletic Club, which was roughly 1/20th the size it is now, i was upstairs on the Stairmaster (!) and the only other person working out in that area was Bobby Hebert .. we talked a little, only time ive ever had a conversation with him, and he was busting my balls about being skinny .. asking why i was doing cardio and telling me i needed to hit the weights.. thing is, yeah he’s tall, but he was super skinny as well , esp for an NFL player…. not anymore though, i think all the beer has finally gotten to him .

Last time New Orleans hosted Superbowl, Feb 2013, I was still working as a taxi cab driver, Jeff Ireland was still with the Dolphins. He was here for SB, got in my cab to go out in the Quarter. Had a pleasant convo about how much he loved NOLA and wouldn’t mind working for the Saints one day. Lovely wife and daughter too.

I was at Rolls N Bowls on Metairie Rd a few summers ago. In walks Loomis and he walks to the register to make a take out order. Seems like he has never been to the restaurant before or ate Vietnamese food. He tells the guy:

“Gimme one of those shrimp things. And my son wants the noodle dish. I ll take a few of these. Whats the meat and noodle dish? I ll take it. You can add a plate of that stuff with the pork.”

I remember thinking, sounds like the restaurant is familiar with what he orders and he must go there often, but he has no clue what any of the items are called. Makes sense now to see where the saints are with everything. Anybody else have any strange encounters like this with him?

Sounds like a typical guy going to an Asian restaurant and doesn’t feel like learning the name of the food or pronouncing anything but knows what he wants and how to quickly describe it.

This is normal activity, especially as a man trying to make a quick order while in line at a takeout restaurant, with people behind you and no time to study the menu. What in the world does this have to do with his professional life?

People just continue to look for ANYTHING negative to say, looking under every nook and cranny. Now it’s “How a man orders Vietnamese food helps explain why the Saints have struggled.” 😂

I've met him a few times over the years as we have mutual friends. I've never quizzed him about the team as it's usually been some social event, but he has been pretty candid on occasion. I remember one time was at the very start of Bounty Gate and he was talking openly about how Goodell had it in for them. He's always seemed fairly sharp, but anyone can stay in a job too long...

Chatted with Sean Payton when he was playing for the Leicester Panthers back in '88. They'd just lost a big game to local rivals the Birmingham Bulls and he was getting banter from the Bulls fans who chanted 'You're the most expensive punter in the league' (He was punter as well as QB). He took it pretty well and seemed a decent bloke.

Could hardly believe it when I saw we'd signed him as HC and I realised it was the same Sean Payton :)

I met while playing golf at the TPC in avondale right before Payton made the decision not to return. He was in the group right behind me and it was a slow day and he was parked on our tee box a few times. Also we knew someone who was playing with him so we chatted a bunch. great guy i thanked him for our one superbowl win(sincerely) and he said we should have had 3! Personally i trust him and i believe that he let's his coaches make there own decisions and he supports them fully. He's more of an administrator than a personel guy.
He just needs to make a good hire and we'll be good. He didn't really want DA, neither did MS Gayle from the beginning. They had no choice and no time to go looking for someone else.
Yeah, so many on here say that DA was always the hire. I felt it was only because they had missed out on other coaches.

i believe he is fine for the job too but to say they didn’t have time and hired DA anyway is not a good look if true

I was leaving an even that was held at Airline Dr, and I took a picture with Haslett & Charles Grant. This may have been around 2004. As I was walking to my car, I saw Loomis and a woman (which I assume was his wife) looking for their car. I wasn't a huge fan of him then, but like most I had a small amount of optimism.

Back in 2004, when Houston hosted the Super Bowl, I worked at one of the local soda bottlers as a Key Account Manager. I got to host a bunch of events we did with a whole slew of NFL celebrities that would sit at WalMarts to sign autographs. Sounds weird, but it worked well.

I spent 2 hours with Michael Lewis, which was the highlight of my time in that role. Such a good dude. I also spent time with Moran Norris and Fred McAfee, as well as players from the Texans and Cowboys. Dat Nguyen, Marlon Mcree, Dominic Davis and a few others.
