Are we going to talk about that thing that no one's talking about (2 Viewers)

I am mostly looking at the appropriate forum that has a tab option on this website. A huge amount of posts(not surprisingly)over on there.
And the unsurprising tenor of those posts make clear the wisdom of Andrus’ decision to jettison partisan discussion from this forum.

A little off topic, but not really- i have a friend who lives in Milwaukee.. i talked to her last week, she rents an apartment in a nice building downtown that just so happens to be the only residential building that’s connected to FiServ Arena where the RNC is being held this week.. building management was already starting to make her life a little miserable, saying she couldn’t have guests, would have to have her mail opened and searched, and could not receive any Amazon deliveries during the RNC.. so i suggested she list her place on AirBNB, which she did- and which would definitely help make up for the inconvenience .. tonight i checked and the listing was gone so I assumed someone took her up on the offer.. but nope, she said it was flagged and now expects security to be even more hellish, I wouldn’t be surprised if they kicked everyone out of the building this week, in which case i think she should sue the hell out of the management company since these conventions are planned years ahead of time and yet they didn’t disclose any of this when she signed her lease.. just an interesting side effect of all this, I thought .

Very politely stated. I would have had a harsher evaluation, but I will defer to your well-worded analysis.

My unpolitical take on this.
Our country is in a sad state of affairs. Once again, for the umpteenth time a man was killed for standing in the wrong place at the wrong time all in the name of hate.
Why, why does hate and violence take precedence over peace and at least an attempt at unity?
I am struggling to quit smoking and I swear I could be more successful if we could learn how to stop all the f×××××g hate.
I can't see to type anymore so I will say peace to all of you and back out now.

I remember the old days and though I appreciated hearing opposing opinions that I respect such as Guido and Oye, it was just way too turbulent. It was the right decision to limit politics

I guess i will be the one to admit that I don’t understand the difference between having a tab at the top of the page im typing on right now, that takes you to a different website.. versus having a tab at the top of the page im typing on right now, that takes you to a different forum/board on SaintsReport…. If there is going to be civil discussion , it would happen in both versions, and if there’s going to be hatred and vitriol, it would happen in both versions .

Back in the day creole families had a garçonnière - it was a separate living quarter for post adolescent males in the family to move into - it was separated from the main house but still on the property
It was fine to get the adolescent boys away from the rest of the family for reasons we all could easily figure out

It’s like that

I always thought it was kinda weird, too, but I was just so glad that EE didn't become an echo chamber.

Keeping with the unpolitical take, why does hate and violence take precedence over Peace and unity? Money, Power, and Social Media.

Social Media sells ads to generate their revenue. A standard ad on a normal Facebook page generates approximately 1.7 cents/ad, but an ad for an "Engaged User" jumps up to 4 cents per ad. How do you change someone from a normal person to an "Engaged User"? You make them angry and show them things that cause them to "click through" to see additional content. This is why FB content is so "click-baity", they are trying to generate an additional 2.3 cents per user. Political Parties are capitalizing on this and have realized if the peons are too busy fighting each other, they can remain in power, so long as they keep the people angry and give them a target to focus their anger.

So why does hate take precedence? Because Facebook or whatever other Social Media wanted to make an additional 2.3 cents/ad. Why is Political Violence more common in our society? Because both sides are arguing that the other side is an existential threat to our Democracy and both sides feel as if they have no other recourse. Voting doesn't work, the Courts don't work, even a common agreed upon reality is no longer possible. Because both sides are too busy making their base angry to keep them engaged, the base lashes out violently against the other side when we are truly all one America. We have just been bastageized by politicians doing whatever it takes to maintain power and keep us all "Engaged" for that extra 2.3 cents per ad. We all love our Country, we are just being told the diversity which is our greatest strength is actually destroying us.

Will this country survive? I don't know, but I have serious doubts. I miss the days when Politicians would duel each other, there were a lot fewer actual citizens being killed.

To get to your specific point, the answer is media literacy taught early and often- I’m really not sure anything else will work

To the broader point - while love (needed to form social bonds) is more important for the species to survive; fear (the primary ingredient in hate) is hardwired to protect the individual.
It’s also a much simpler, lizard brain response vs the more complex firings of the frontal lobe

Hearing a lot more on both sides having these same thoughts. When we're all scared, that's scary.

I actually woke up this morning thinking we HAVE to be nearing some saturation point - the human body is not built to handle so much stress so continuously- especially a stress that we (by and large) are manufacturing
Maybe there’s a chance we arrive at a collective ‘chill out’ phase
