Are you worried about the AK contract situation? (1 Viewer)

He's owed 22.4 mil next year non guaranteed. Extend it to 2026 so 2 years 22.4. Guarantee him $15 mil of it. 10 mil guaranteed next year, $5 mil in 26. If he doesn't want it then bye. Overpaying for him would be stupid

Not worried. I'd rather have him than not, but he's not making or breaking our season at this stage in his career.

I'm also not particularly worried about him missing time. He's always been an intelligent player, and picked up Sean's offense very quickly as a rookie, so getting up to speed on Klint's offense as a veteran shouldn't be a big lift. He's got a lot of time on task with our skill players too. Any detriment attached to missing practice reps is probably offset at least as much by keeping his legs fresh.

My biggest worry is giving him too much guaranteed money or extending him too long, but my guess is that we'll give him some insurance in exchange for decreasing AAV over the next 2-3 years.

In short, I see this standoff as a big nothing burger.

Nope.. not worried a bit.. Listen, AK is almost 30, looking for that last fat payday.. sure, i'm torn just like everybody else, pay him and let him retire a Saint, or kick dirt to another team to shell out the huge dollars that the Saints are sick and tired of doing year after year..

Meanwhile, one of my top 3 guys, Kendre Miller!.. yup, just as big and fast, you plug that 41 on his back and I can almost guarantee you no one is going to know the difference.. my only concern for him is health, we need to see what this sophmore can do for a full season.. he showed solid promise at the end of the year, but still, the question remains, can he stay healthy for a full season.. Can't wait to see TC.. but i'd bet you that he's gonna be the perfect plug & play guy.. just my .02

Dude what. Miller will be lucky to have half the success Kamara has had. Running back might not be valued the way it used to be, but some of ya'll have really gone off the deep end with thinking you can plug and play anyone at RB.

I’m not for overpaying for Kamara, I’ve said it several times, he’s in the twilight of his career. However, if you watched him and Kendre side by side last year through the offseason you could tell even at a reduced talent level AK had much more burst than Kendre. AK is an athletic dude, Kendre isn’t close even at this age. Miller is going to have to take a Superman type leap to even come close.

When this first became a thing at the end of minicamp, I didn't give it much thought, but I'm talking myself into being more worried.

He'll be 29 when the new season starts, and that's historically when RB's start to lose some of their fastball. The way the Saints manage their cap, they have the number written in ink that they're willing to pay every player and it's planned out years into the future. Some teams never pay 2nd contracts to running backs, they just draft one every three years.

I hope this gets resolved before training camp starts and I'm worried about nothing.

Thoughts?
He’s already started to lose the fastball. He hasn’t been as good the past few seasons as he was with Brees. Kamara was unbelievable as a rookie and second year player.

Still a very good RB but he’s a risky high priced investment. Still would like him around if possible but I’d respect the Saints business/analytics decision to move on…because playing the odds he’s not likely to outplay his next contract.

Miller isn’t close to the back that Kamara WAS. But he doesn’t have to be. He just has to be close to what Kamara will be over the next few seasons. That seems possible because Kamara doesn’t have a positive trend.

What if he puts up McCaffrey numbers? Do you still give him that type of money going into his 30s?
That’s fantasy. Kamara hasn’t been remotely close to cmc in years. In his early years? Absolutely…but not post-Brees

I dont know if yall remember DAs infamous EOY presser, go back and listen to his comments on AK specifically. He believes AK has a lot of tread left on the tires....IJS.

Also, its not like the Saints have had a world class offense the past couple seasons and AK was the clog slowing them down. By most accounts the offense was a little stale combined with OL issues. This new offense is RB-friendly based on the concepts. Do you believe the Saints can get 2-3 productive seasons out of AK???

Fleur-de-lis for YES.
Goddell for NO.

I think the folks that keep bringing up AK's age fail to realize he isn't your typical NFL RB.....his offseason regiment is what will keep him playing at a high level for the next 2-3 years....his recent lack of production is really more due to the Saints overall offensive woes since....DA.....we will hopefully see if that changes this year....
