Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) Discussion (1 Viewer)

I feel like I am putting words into @Heathen Saint 's mouth at this point, but as I understand it, it is not a digital version, but the actual chemical and electric impulses that fire up in your brain, but they now fire up in another medium. Like pouring the water in one glass into another glass: same water, different glass.
I think we still have a way to go to understand consciousness, obviously. But consciousness almost certainly consists of more than just neural impulses. And the complicated network of electrical pulses in the brain could present equally complicated problems upon transfer. It’s possible that your consciousness would no longer be a first person experience.

once we unlocked individual consciousness, it would probably point out that our neural electro-chemical impulses interact with other networks out there and our brains are more like fungus than autonomous entities

I like the idea of it being a tapestry. But being able to quantify qualia doesn’t seem to fit into that theory. Or at least it’s way too smart for me to understand, which is an absolute possibility.

However, some of that water is inevitably left behind in the original glass, and each subsequent glass. That would be my worry. How much of me made the transfer? What was left behind?
How does the water interact with the new container and how does it affect the water?

What are these other networks?

What do you think is there besides neural impulses? Why is it almost a certainty?

The physical does not exhaust the actual.

Granted, I’m not a neuroscientist so I’m out of my depth here, but most outside of a reductionist few conclude that consciousness is more than just something the brain does.

I don’t mean to imply that it’s something mystical or woo woo, just that there’s more going on than appears.

The things that make me a little woo woo about the consciousness:

1. People can have 90% of a missing brain, and still function normally.

2. Terminal lucidity that occurs in some Alzheimer's patients.

There is clearly something more then just a neural network. I'm not saying it's spiritual at all, but these instances point towards a "secret sauce".

Does that mean metaphysical?

I don't think it is "a few reductionists".

Is it the same for all animals? Or just human brains?

Other sentient beings, IR/UV spectrum, weather maybe
Atmosphere, hemisphere, magnetic pull, temperatures over time, diet, bacteria, microbes, disease even physical forces like banging your head. Every single aspect, every moment, even dreams while sleeping and our very thoughts shape our very unique, individual experience. And those experiences all have, at the very least, physical and emotional affects on our brain. Our entire existence is a cascade of dominoes that shape our minds, probably in ways that we still haven't even begun to understand.

Does that man metaphysical?

Look at any animal. It’s clear they have some level of consciousness, but it’s also very clear they are not running the same software as us.

I realize this is your schtick, but I’m not going to engage if you are not going to participate in good faith.
