Limp Bizkit and 311 are two completely opposite styles of band. I hope you can tell the difference.
311 as a whole write about peace, unity and loving life while Limp Bizkit wrote about....well I don't really know what they wrote about.
BTW The Beastie Boys started out as a punk band well before they were the rap icons that they are today. Does that stil make it ok that they rap?
Of course I can tell the difference between Limp Bizkit and 311. My point is very simple: when rock bands rap, it is largely bad. I see it as a fad that was appealing during the late 90's, but most of them do it in a way that comes off pathetic and contrived. There are very few rock bands that I would say can pass the "rap credibility" test.
Yes I get it about the Beastie Boys. Lots of music groups start out one way then evolve into totally other things, and as long as the music is good then it is good. Duh.
311 makes good music if you consume large quantities of pot
i hate buckcherryWhoa, hate on 311's new stuff, but don't hate on their awesomeness. 311 did it before it was popular and then switched more into the softer reggae sound some what after 1999.
When I think of rock/rap, I think of Limp Bizkit. Not 311.
Anyone else here hate Buckcherry.
IMO, the Who are the only rock band with possibly the Pink Floyd with Roger Waters leading the charge, could sell millions of records, set world wide attendance records, and still be on the cutting edge of good solid song writing and great visual effects at live shows, with the Who's Pete Townsend going insane and destroying his guitar like a madman and the late Kieth Moon blowing up his drum set with hidden explosives on national TV, for good measure. Those guys could do that and be great rock bands who made classic records time and time again, it would be hard for any other band to do that these days because of the sensitivity of corporatism in music these days. It was controversial in the late 60's and 70's and 80's, it is probably more so these days in comparison.
