Assante Samuel to Eagles? KFFL Reports Deal Done [MERGED] (4 Viewers)

W/Out Samuel, Where do we go Now?

As it appears that we're not going to sign Samuel, what do yall think we're going to do to address the glaring need at CB, if anything?

I'm not really liking any of the really expensive CBs left in free agency, I think they are all overpriced.

So are we going to overpay one of the few remaining semi-studs, go for a lesser known guy for less money w/a large possible upside, wait for the draft (which i sure hope we don't) or make another trade?

I think we draft DRC to be honest... He wont cost as much and i think he can play. We might sign one the CB's like Reeves but as a backup even though he wants to start... but i like DRC and i think we can adress Linebacker in the Second DT with Okam and another CB in the 4th

If they can get Randall Gay at a resonable price.. sign him.. I think Drayton Florence will be asking a high price.

If you get Briggs, run a cover-2 defense and go after Ellis or Dorsey in the draft. A cover-2 would deemphasize the importance of a top-flight CB and allow us to get some guys like Antoine Cason or Brandon Flowers or Chevis Jackson who could do very well with us in that system.

Either that, or you make a trade for a guy like Sheppard and hope that Usama Young is ready on the other side.

Since we've traded for Vilma, and the Saints seem to really be going after one of the top DT's in free agency....i think drafting either Mike Jenkins from USF or the Cromartie kid makes alot sense.

The Saints probably realize Dorsey and Ellis won't be available at #10 so going for Stroud or Robertson then drafting a talented young corner makes alot of sense at this point.

More on Samuel: Obviously, the Eagles know that they have to get him signed today. They understand the market. It would be absolutely huge if he signs here. The man is one of the best play-makers in the NFL and he would give the Eagles a great picture at cornerback. Obviously, you would wonder if there would be another shoe to drop here. If the Eagles sign Samuel, would they trade ...? We can consider that for another time. Let's get a deal done first.

The climate is not to dip your toe into the water in this free-agency period. You bring a player in and you try to sign him right then and there. If he leaves the building, it's going to be difficult to sign him. So the Eagles know they need to get a deal done today. Now. As soon as possible.

Back to my chat with Adam Caplan, from Sirius NFL Radio. He wants the Eagles to sign a cornerback and a defensive end. Adding a wide receiver will be tough. He says the Cardinals are closing in on a deal with Larry Fitzgerald, one of the names rumored to be a player in whom the Eagles are interested -- and the fan favorite -- and he thinks Bernard Berrian will go to Minnesota. A trade? It could be the only way for the Eagles to add some speed.

"They need a speed receiver," says Caplan.

9:33 am.

I just got off the phone with Caplan from and he is amazed at some of the deals around the league. "The Tommy Kelly deal (with Oakland) was one of the worst deals I have ever seen ..."

I have to stop typing. The official announcement is here: Cornerback Asante Samuel is visiting the Eagles today and will be made available at 4:30 p.m. at the NovaCare Complex. Yes!!!

Now that Samuel will most likely sign with the Eagles (Speculation)

Should we try to go after Shepphard... He is still a great corner who would upgrade our Secondary

yeah, i was going to say, if the eagles do sign samuel, is sheppard now expendable? i would really like to get him.

Actually, with the Raiders signing Kelly to that huge deal (and already having Terdell Sands at NT), the chances of one of them being there has improved even more. Here's a quick look at the top 10:

1. Miami-Chris Long
2. St. Louis-Jake Long
3. Atlanta-Matt Ryan
4. Oakland-Darren McFadden
5. Kansas City-Ryan Clady
6. New York Jets-Vernon Gholston
7. New England-Derrick Harvey, DE (Sedrick Ellis or a CB could also go here)
8. Baltimore-Leodis McKelvin
9. Cincinnatti-Phillip Merting
10. New Orleans--Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis, depending on who is on the board and who they like most.
