Bad Casting Choices in the Movies and Television

the good Nic Cage movies (or roles)
Raising Arizona - already mentioned
Valley Girl
Vampire's Kiss
Birdy
Adaptation
Leaving Las Vegas
Red Rock West
Wild at Heart
Rumble Fish
(most of) Moonstruck

something happens to some actors - the hit a 'try' wall or something - Steve Martin was the funniest person on screen for an incredible run of movies, then he hit a wall and went into some slump and hasn't made a good movie in maybe 15-20 years
I would volunteer Mandy for a Nic Cage move made recently---it's original if nothing else, but I enjoyed it. Steve Martin---ehhh, got nothing

Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rebecca Dawes in Dark Knight. Still don’t get it. Millionaire playboy and this is his crush? Childhood sweetheart or not I was left throwing up the What the Fork! flag when watching. I did not read the comics so maybe i’m wrong.

She was going to be my choice as well. Her performance wasn't very good either!

I always thought Goodman in his prime (late 80s/early 90s) would have been the best Ignatius.. but tomato/to-MAH-to i guess.
Goodman would have made the movie about himself. Folks who never read the books would just think it was a silly John Goodman vehicle movie.

It would need to be an unknown actor - so the move would be about Ignatius.

There was a guy playing Ignatius on stage in the 90s who was perfect.

yikes
had never heard of it
and just the trivia section alone makes it sound like one of the best troll jobs ever

Gary Oldman often made his famous moose soup for the cast and crew and insisted everyone eat it instead of the provided catering. He claimed it awoke the "machines within" needed for his once in a life time performance.

That's him! He did the role justice.

I am afraid pretty much anybody with a Hollywood background would make a mockery of the role. Hollywood directors/producers would too. It would be great to say "that's why it has never been done" but artistic purity is hardly a concern when they can make a quick buck. They probably don't think it would sell many tickets.

I like John Goodman but really don't think he is dynamic enough to be a great Ignatious.

PSH to me was one of the greatest actors of his generation. He had tremendous versatility and depth...but yeah, you are correct, to each his own...Cheers

I can't stand Tom Cruise, to me he is the male version of Jane Fonda, he overacts almost ever single role he is in...

One exception, he was outstanding in the 4th of July.....

Yeah if the choice were going to be an ‘unknown’ actor as someone above suggested- then there would simply be no other choice than Spud.. i was acquainted with Spud years ago but haven’t seen him in a long time, and it was my understanding that there was talk of making the movie with him circa 25 yrs ago,, but the very thing that was suggested above- using an unknown- was the reason the movie never got made.. nobody outside of La knew who Spud was, so he obviously wasn’t going to put ***es in movie theater seats nationally and internationally like a John Goodman wouldve.
