Battlestar Galactica Discussions (MERGED)

Shall we now delve into the morals and ethics of biological weapons?

Wait, that's next week's episode. :)

This week, I blinked twice when they showed the "hybred" Cylon that runs the base ship.

Where have I seen this before? Hmmm...ah! Babylon 5 Shadow ship, of course. The human/central processor sent out psychic screams of pain and horror.

The Cylon version on Galactica talks to itself in mystic gibberish which may or may not mean anything. Might be messages from the Cylon god.

There are 12 models of human form Cylons. When Baltar asks about the five that haven't been revealed, Number 6 gets all defensive and says the Cylons never speak of them. A breakaway group? Failed experiments? Guess we'll find out about that further on down the line.

Adama handled Starbuck and Tigh's meltdown like we knew Adama would. It would have been much cooler if Tigh had just picked up the pistol and blown his own brains out. But, apparently, we get to see him continue his descent into total dementia.

Starbuck cuts her hair and tries to return to being Starbuck. Good luck.

Apollo is out of his fat suit. Boy, that didn't take long, did it? Wonder if the budget for all the makeup played a factor.

So, let me get this straight, Sharon's callsign, "Boomer," now refers to the Sharon who shot Adama and was killed by Callie.

The turncoat Cylon Sharon, the one that had the baby, is now callsign "Athena." Did I get that right?

The whole "use this weapon to wipe out a race" thing was also done in the STTNG episode I, Borg. Picard had to make a choice whether to use Hugh to destroy the collective or let him go. Of course, Picard didn't committ genocide and they released Hugh the Borg much to the Ire of Starfleet....who wanted to wipe them out. I think we'll see a similar result from this current story arc. Someone will step up and say "no, wiping out the cylons makes us worse than them."

Wasn't Ronald Moore a writer for that show too?

Which is why I wish more televised SF writers were Heinlein fans.

"Wiping out the Cylons makes us worse than them!"

"No, it makes us alive and them dead. Which is how I prefer it. If you're not on board with that program, there's the airlock."

Big difference on BSG from STTNG on this one. The President decides to kill them. They even take Sharon into consideration. Heck, Sharon practically signs off on it.

As you might guess, they are not successful.

Good episode, not the best from the Galactica side of it though. The Cylon side however got REALLY interesting. Looks like Baltar found a new friend.

I find it hard to believe Adama would so willingly look the other way for some one on his ship intentionally sabotaging a mission. Other than that, another good episode.

Probably because he knew it was wrong to begin with.

I really loved the scenes of the approach to the Base Star with all those raiders just floating aimlessly. These folks do a great job with spaceship movement and battle scenes like Galactica's aborted attack. Stunning work.

Roslyn's the bloodthirsty witch, isn't she? She slept her way into her position as Education Minister. Now she gives the order to commit genocide. Wicked.

I didn't find it far-fetched that Adama would simply close the book on the sabotage. He didn't approve of the mission. He also knew the saboteur had to be one of two people and he was confident it wasn't his pal, Athena. Process of elimination - it had to be her hubby.

Baltar, what a mess. I kept waiting for the #6 in his head to say "I am the voice of god."

That's coming, I think.

Dangit, missed the episode tonight.

So they had a shot to wipe out the Cylons once and for all and somebody sabotaged it?

And Adama is okay with that? Whoa, I knew he was a species-traitor, but I never thought it went that deep.

The Cylons killed billions of them in their attempt at genocide. The Cylons are chasing them around the universe so that they can complete their mission.

In reality and under these circumstances there would have been any disagreement between the military leader and his President.

smoker: (military slang) a boxing match in a unit which allows troops to settle grudges regardless of rank or position.

On Galactica, it's called "The Dance."

I'm going to call this latest episode the "Chick Flick Episode."

From beginning to end, the whole show bounces from the boxing ring to flashbacks of the characters' love lives.

These people don't have love triangles...they have love octagons.

At ringside, Adama and Roslyn flashback to a cozy evening on New Caprica.

In the ring, acting as referee, COL Tigh has flashbacks to that same evening with his now-dead wife whom he had to poison for being a traitor.

Apollo...Jayden this is your chance to check him out in a boxing ring without the fat suit...er...remembers the same evening Adama and Rosyln and Tigh remember. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it.

Starbuck...uh...yes, she has flashbacks too. Lots of flashbacks. Lots and lots of flashbacks. What a basket case! In case you've forgotten, Starbuck was the trainer (and lover) of Adama's other son, who was killed in a training accident.

Like I said, a totally chick flick episode.

We didn't post anything about the previous episode. The only thing that immediately comes to mind was Lucy Lawless rolling out of the bed she'd been sharing with Baltar and #6. Lucky Baltar. :)

Oh, Lucy's character also began exploring the time between getting killed and getting downloaded. She even had a centurian shoot her so she could experience it again. There was a white-robed figure in the "between" world.

So, while Brother Cavill (Evil Al, Dean Stockwell) kept complaining that he had worse and worse headaches each time he revived, D'anna Biers (Lucy Lawless) is thinking she's getting closer and closer to "god" each time.

Oh, I found this Lucy Lawless "D'anna Biers" fan site. Enjoy:

Did anybody see the last two or three episodes.....?

Last night was great, if not a little too much filler.

Still one of the best shows on TV period!

heh....I haven't missed an episode..but there weren't alot of people discussing it here...I think maybe the move to Sunday night may have messed some up.

I think the last two episodes have been quite good. I couldn't believe Roslin screaming at Baltar last night. That's the first time she's ever raised her voice (to my knowledge) on the show.

I'll be interested to see what happens to Baltar with this trial coming up.
