Steve Spagnuolo is another example of a longtime DC who likely won’t garner any more HC opportunites. This is beneficial in that you’re not swapping schemes every few years, thus allowing you to scout and add talent more efficiently over the long haul.

That team may be dangerous next season. Their defense hasn’t been bad the past couple years and get an elite playcaller in DA.

He's not elite. He could be and has flirted with being elite, but he's not consistent enough. He used to blitz all the time and then for some strange reason he's blitzed less every year and this started under Payton. Our DB's also give up long plays and he sucks at the final 2 minutes of each half. And let's not forget about his poor practice methods. He needs to take a good long hard look at himself in the mirror and admit his mistakes and actively fix them like he claimed he did when we hired him in the first place if he wants to get back to being a really good DC and work his way to elite.

Hey, there's certainly value in having a quality lifetime DC. It's a good point. Had you originally used Spags, Gregg Williams, or anyone of the like I'd have not thought twice. You just casually dropped the name of probably the greatest DC of all-time, so surely you can understand why that may cause a doubletake.

As far as wasting time? We're on a fan message board. We're all wasting time, let's be real
