Beating the Falcons proved what many thought (3 Viewers)

The Falcons kicker missed 3 field goals in one game. Two of which were just bad kicks. If he makes those we are talking about a losing effort today and replaying a lot of mistakes on both sides of the ball.
The game does not stay exactly the same once that first field goal you speak of is made. Everything changes after that, there's no way anyone could possibly predict what happens after that so your point has no validity. RIMO

validity.

If we're talking "If's" if AK catches that pass we win by 1. If the refs called it evenly we win by more

1. higher picks don't necessarily guarantee a player won't bust. plenty of top 5 picks BUST; and every team in the NFL passed on Drew Brees in the 1st round. i don't think it matters that much if a player is taken top 5, middle of round, or end of round. what matters most, is making the RIGHT pick. at a minimum, a solid starter....ideally, a guy who moves the needle.
2. IF the Saints end up with a "middling pick", it means Rizzi did a helluva job with what he had to work with. I also think it means the Saints found a coach for the future. We're either gonna end up with a high pick, or a LTS (long-term solution) HC. Both are good outcomes, IMO. Truth be told though....I'd prefer the LTS Coach because I think that'll be a bigger impact on the team than any player the Saints select, except maybe a franchise caliber QB. But without the HC, I don't think the franchise caliber QB will matter much.

With those 2 things said, i hope that allows you to fully enjoy today's victory. I know I am. And if this effort continues, I'll still enjoy the "fight", regardless of outcome. As long as Rizzi and the team keeps chopping wood, the way wood is SUPPOSED to be chopped, the remainder of the season should be enjoyable to watch. (raises glass for toast) Here's to THAT!
Certainly see and appreciate that point of view also. Guess I’m just tired of the middling pick barely missing the playoffs scenario we’ve seen for the past few seasons. I don’t disagree with any of your points.

I’ll never be sad about beating the Falcons.

Will be a Who Dat till I die no matter where the chips fall, as I’ve always been.

Cheers. 😊

You are more optimistic about our roster than I am. I see a lot of our best guys as being close to retirement and not having much behind them. If we’re two years of better drafts away, those guys will be gone and there will be more holes. Happy about the win and Rizzi’s energy today though.
Cam is really the only player that should retire. TM and DD have 1-2 more yrs at the same level as they are now. TH while maybe 34 has not played a lot of yrs in the league so I say 2 yrs more for him
Isn't that what those 2 yrs of drafts are for getting younger and cheaper??

TM and DD have shown their age in big ways this season. If they are still playing in 2026, we did something wrong.

I doubt either is playing in 2026. I saw some news segment on the NFL boot camp they have for players looking to get into the media after they retire and both Cam and Tryann were in attendance. Doesn't mean either will retire this year, but they are clearly getting close and getting ready for it on their own. And I honestly can't see Davis playing for more than one more year. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will see football as everything and hold on too long.

So by the time the cap is more ore less clear none of them will likely be around. The key will be drafting guys that are worthy of replacing them. That should be relatively doable at Safety and LB, but clearly much harder at DE. Then again I wonder how much of the DL problems have been Grantham and DA having them play passive.

My larger point is that our real young guys are unproven, our middle veterans haven’t shown much to be excited about and our aging veterans are nearly done. What veterans we do want to keep may be difficult if they hit free agency over the next couple of years.

Let’s not get carried away here.

It was great to see the team play with some intensity, it was great to see an animated coach on the sideline….. but the team is what it is this year.

They got lucky today that a usually automatic kicker missed 3 kicks.
Yeah, I think we should’ve been much better IF we had a healthier roster.

But this is who the team is going to be without Olave, Shaheed, Lattimore, etc. It’s always great to beat Atlanta but this roster isn’t capable of much more the rest of the way.

I understand that too! Respect!

It is pretty clear to me the team was not playing well for DA.

If anything, they looked to me like they lolligaged through practice most days and entered the games unready to play. The last 4 weeks they've looked like they were trying to figure it out during the game and they hadn't prepared properly.

They definitely played harder today. Offense was making a lot more blocks than ususal. Everything seemed sharper and the team more into game mode. Defense made more tackles and pass coverage was pretty solid.

Run defense and pass rush are still trouble spots. We barely get any push on most plays.

Still get too many penalties.

DD has missed less tackles this yr than last yr and he was pro-bowler. They also have been put in poor position due to abysmal DL play. Fix the DL and they will be fine for 2 more yrs
Missed tackles only count when you’re close enough to tackle. He’s lost some of his sideline to sideline speed. And has shown his age. And I don’t care about popularity/ name recognition contests like the pro bowl.

That despite all the injuries, this should of been a team contending for the playoffs. With Rizzi as coach this team would be looking at a 6-4 record possibly a 7-3.

D.A really was this teams greatest opponent.
Atlanta Falcons are a good team. Saints finally beat a team with a winning record. They would’ve blown out the panties if they had Rizzi coaching last week.

I think DA missed some detail that makes a HC a HC, I think he was depending on vets to do the coaching and he just manned the defense per usual, but when it came back on him he was a deer in headlights....
Killer instinct, in sports its referred to as a will to win. DA didn't have it so the team didn't. We get a lead and he takes his foot off relaxes on an opponent let them back in games kill our momentum.
