N/S Ben Johnson (1 Viewer)

Bears are reportedly interested and Shefty is saying Johnson might have some level of interest in working with Caleb. Bears are also interested in Kliff Kingsbury. I bet the hang-up will be IF Johnson wants to work for Poles, who could be on his very last legs with the org. Taking your first HC gig for a lame duck GM isn't usually a formula for success--esp when the candidate will be the most coveted on the market. I suppose the same could be said for us, but the situation is a little different with Loomis imo.

From what I've heard, Poles is fairly well liked. Most of the coverage I've seen has lauded him for his moves such as acquiring Sweat and the heist he pulled off on Carolina. He hasn't been flawless, but generally speaking on the transaction side of things he's been praised.

But of course, as with most GMs, you only get 2 shots (if that) at hiring the right head coach before it falls on you, and Eberflus crashed and burned on national TV finally in the worst way. But I don't think this is a situation where Poles is necessarily on his way out. If anything, he's motivated to find the right head coach to work with the talent he has acquired. So I don't think Poles will be the (deciding) factor here.

Rex is the first one that comes to mind for me because he’s currently available and has HC experience. I also believe Staley will likely be fired after this season, he’s a good defensive mind thay could keep us top tier.

Whoever runs defense I really believe we need to switch to a 3-4. Cam and Bresee at DE, rotate Saunders and Foskey with them. Roach and Shepard can handle the NT. That should help Cam more as he continues to age, or move him inside to DT if we keep 4-3.
You’re talking my language, 3-4 Defense all the way! A few good draft picks with what we have now. A big NT is the start.

This trend of hiring “young offensive-minded coaches” has shown mixed results. I thought Dave Canales would make an immediate impact but he hasn’t lived up to initial expectations. I believe (hope) that our FO will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all coaching candidates, rather than focusing on popular names in the coaching circuit.

Unless your Mickey Loomis- U can do whatever you want

Ben Johnson is like the #1 high school football prospect in the nation… he can literally pick his spot to go…

…and the Saints are Kennesaw State University.

No chance he comes here
He isnt coming here. Old Outdated ways.

I dont know what kind of GM he is, but that was a hell of a trade. Mickey would have gotten two 5ths, and we send back a sixth... Look at Mickeys last 10 trades, I dont think we won any....

Who's the QB coach in Detroit? Maybe we can get Glenn, and he brings one of the other offensive guys from the staff.

Whoever we hire, we need to give them a lot of patience and front office support. This won't get fixed overnight. This team is thin and has limited resources.

Bad team management has gotten this team where it currently stands with resources. Changing a HC doesn’t change that. Same management; same issues in the future.

Look no further than the fact that the Saints got a first round pick from Denver for Sean Payton yet Sean Payton has drafted his first round QB before the Saints. And he did it while winning more games than the Saints in the same time frame.
